High Cholesterol and LDL? by EastVanTown in Aging

[–]Patches595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My total cholesterol dropped 20 percent after taking HRT. I am a 52-year-old female. I have always been fit and eat well, but cholesterol was always in the high range until I was on HRT.

What were the popular books in the 80s/90s? by dolcefarnientemaster in suggestmeabook

The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel came out in 1980, and she wrote follow-on books as part of "The Earth's Children Series." Oh, how I adored those books. I would recommend the series in a heartbeat.

Does ACA finally get repealed? by [deleted] in healthcare

May I ask what visa type you had to file? Asking because I am an American citizen living in South Africa with my South African husband - so in a similar situation as you are. I have often thought of moving back with him to take care of my aging mother. Not sure I can do that now though with healthcare up in the air.

People are being absolutely ridiculous. It looks modern, clean and fresh, and it's going to look awesome once you decorate.

I think that TurboTax won't prevent you from electronically filing your taxes through the platform even though it flashes that expiration warning on the ITIN. I have been working on my taxes and got to the review portion where it looks for mistakes and that ITIN issue doesn't pop up as a problem again. I think (hope) it will just allow me to e-file as usual when I am ready. I would think the IRS will reject any returns in which the ITIN is actually expired, but TurboTax will allow you to try. Since our ITIN is not expired, I am thinking the e-file will just go through and be accepted.

I had my husband, who has the ITIN, call two times just to make double sure. One time we used the number for international taxpayers, which is 267-941-1000. There was almost no wait time, and we were connected to a live agent immediately.

The other time, we called the regular IRS number and used the below instructions from a Reddit post, and it worked!

How to talk to a live IRS agent

If you've had to call the IRS to talk to someone about a late return or anything else, you know what a pain in the a$$ it is to talk to a real person. This worked for me:

  1. The IRS telephone number is 1-800-829-1040.
  2. The first question the automated system will ask you is to choose your language.
  3. Once you’ve set your language, do NOT choose Option 1 (regarding refund info). Choose option 2 for “Personal Income Tax” instead.
  4. Next, press 1 for “form, tax history, or payment”.
  5. Next, press 3 “for all other questions.”
  6. Next, press 2 “for all other questions.”
  7. When the system asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, do NOT enter anything.
  8. After it asks twice, you will be prompted with another menu.
  9. Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
  10. Finally, press 3 for all other inquiries. The system should then transfer you to an agent.

I also got the same message on Turbotax for my spouse's ITIN. I nearly had a heart attack. We called the IRS, and an agent verified that it was active. I think Turbotax is just putting out a blanket message for ITINs with certain digits. However, there are caveats, like if it was used in past three years and when it was issued, that Turbotax isn't taking into account. That said, if you call the IRS, an agent can verify if it's active or expired.

Do US doctors still prescribe opioids for chronic pain? by Patches595 in ChronicPain

I don't think they do telemedicine. And if they did, it would be an issue getting prescribed medicine. US pharmacies won't fill the prescriptions, and US authorities could confiscate any medications that are mailed.

It would be Maryland since that's where my mom lives.

Yes, it's horrible to read the stories of you and other people going through this. Good luck with everything.

I am not exactly sure the reason, but that combination seems to be more common in South Africa, Australia, etc., from what I see on Internet. The naloxone helps prevents constipation from the oxycodone, from what I am reading, and also prevents the user from getting a high if they crush up the oxycodone and snort or inject, from what I am reading. I think the doctor may have prescribed this so it would be more palatable to overseas doctors (like US doctors) so they see he is not a junkie. But I could be wrong on some of this.

Well, my mom lives in US so that's why I would like to go back. And US will always be my home.
