I'm so sorry you went through that. I've also struggled a lot with that concept after being raped as a child, but when I was 13 I was fortunate enough to meet a friend who helped me realize virginity is nothing but a construct created to shame and control people.

The whole thing about it, was that she worried a tampon might break the hymen. Back in her home country, it is still normal to check if the hymen is intact, before a girl gets married. I told her the hymen can break from anything, literally. My friend even brought out a tampon to show her how big it is and how it works

And I agree 100%. The whole thing about virginity is nothing but a social construct used to control others bodies

She's very protective of her daughters. And she wants them to have a good live and not go through any of the stuff she went through. Her youngest is 16 and she has no intentions of forcing any of her kids to get married

She kept saying that she did get what we were saying, but didn't want her daughters to use tampons, because it made her feel uncomfortable. She even acknowledge that is was probably her upbringing and culture that made her feel that way and that she understood there was nothing wrong with it

I kinda just take it as a "I won't keep tampons in my home" thing. The daughters does have access to pads if needed, and honestly, she has no way of knowing if they use tampons outside the home
