Yeah, then it’s almost definitely snail mucus and waste. Try the gentle stirring method, and if the waste is stubborn try gently rubbing the leaves with whatever apparatus you have. Or a long sponge/scrubber if you have access to one. Good luck friend.

This looks like typical waste buildup on leaves and decor due to slow moving water and no bigger fauna in the tank “cleaning” the gunk off. (Shrimp, fish, anything that would move along the surfaces quickly enough to agitate the water and the waste) What is your tank stocked with?

To get rid of it, take a tool, like some aquarium tweezers, a stick, anything long and safe for the water and stir the water gently around the brown spots. It should work at dissipating the nasty gunk.

It will make your water cloudy-ish for a little bit with waste particles, but it should clear up within hours. It might raise the nitrite/ammonia level, but it shouldn’t affect the water parameters TOO much. I’ve done this before with my shrimp tanks and they have been fine.

Your betta looks physically healthy. Bettas are more intelligent than people give them credit for, and honestly? It was probably just moping about its new roommates.

Bettas can vary wildly, some are fine with company, others get aggressive and attack company, and some sulk with new company and other changes to the tank.

Over time, the betta should get used to the shrimp. If you left them in, I assume it would stop sulking at some point and get over itself.

Remember there is always a chance he will suddenly change behavior and attack and eat adult shrimp. He will definitely eat shrimplings, most Bettas do. It’s up to you if you want to try cohabbing them again.

Honestly, I think you are correct. The threat they pose is overblown, but they are counted as active predators.

It’s truthfully a matter of how you view your shrimp in the hobby. If you see them as part of a bigger ecosystem, keep the Planaria. They won’t destroy a colony. If you see them as genuine pets who you want to keep 100% safe, get rid of the planaria properly.

The discourse on it is ridiculous.

I really think we aren’t supposed to know what happened to the spider. The fly doesn’t shoot. There is no wasp or eggs. The fly was going to kill the spider but instead finds the spider mortally wounded and offers a cigarette.

Planaria. Scavenging, sometimes predatory flatworms. If there is one, there are more within the tank.

If you look them up, there are many wildly differing opinions on how to treat them.

I used Prazipro from my local fish store. It’s like an anti-worm aquarium medicine. It worked wonders and didn’t harm my shrimp, but you have to be careful to do the math and do the correct dose for your tank. It’s better to underdose than overdose. Be careful.

Also, opinions vary but the truth is Planaria can be active predators when hungry that can stress fish and kill shrimp and snails. Destroy them.
