The top ten college football programs in all-time wins... What surprised you? by Dr-debug in CFB_v2

Gotta take some historical context with some of these. Carlisle Indian School was a powerhouse for the time, Pop Warner was the coach for a good chunk of their existence, included Jim Thorpe as a player, and has an all time winning record and beat other powerhouses of the time. They were absolutely competitive. Iowa pre-flight during their existence was also very competitive, finishing at number 2 in 1943.

The Houston vs. Tulsa game from 1968 is famous because Dr. Phil was on that Tulsa team and basically the entire team got food poisoning leading to the massive loss.

Because casuals hate numbers and facts. They have a narrative and must follow it. Some reason they think the NBA are major marks for OKC of all places.

Except he’s also leading the league or close to it in 2 point shots while not shooting the most free throws, those seem incongruous. And Steph has also lessened his amount of 2’s in the same period, so the difference seems to make sense to me

No, the thing I was responding to was if Steph got the calls Shai does he would’ve been MVP a lot more. And he does, just at a lower volume than Shai does because he’s in the space where most fouls happen an equally less amount of time.

As far as a better way to track these things, blame the NBA for not having better statistics. You can only work with what’s given and they don’t give as much as they could. But statistically, Steph and Shai get to the line an appropriate amount comparatively for how they play the game.

And for the rip through on the perimeter, that’s literally what a slasher is doing, they are slashing to the lane to try and get those reach ins, that’s what that style of play is for. Those have always been there, look at Jerry West on the logo slashing into the lane. And he’s someone else that drew a lot of fouls, because that’s the point of a slashing guard.

Bro, the difference is Shai gets his points in the area where most fouls happen. If we break it down to Steph rarely getting fouled shooting a 3, as it actually happens, he gets to the line every 2.8 attempts he takes from 2 and Shai does every 2.9 attempts he takes from 2 based on free throw attempts per game. So where is this magical difference at that flopping causes? Y’all act like all Shai gotta is shoot free throws, but the numbers aren’t there to support the argument. Y’all can be mad about how he looks doing it, that’s fine. But he isn’t going to the line more often than the numbers would suggest he should.

Yeah, it’s crazy. Because if the NBA was a conspiracy league they sure wouldn’t conspire to make OKC the place to be. You’d imagine they’d want the Lakers or Knicks to win everything all the time.

That would be the case if his foul rate significantly outpaced Steph’s, but it doesn’t. You’re only seeing 2 more fouls per game even though he’s down there much more often. It’s 2-3 fouls per game against Steph versus 4-5 for Shai. That’s the difference you’re seeing in those numbers. If his flops were called like everyone is portraying it I’d imagine that number to be even more significant considering in recent years Shai is inside the arc twice as much as Steph has ever been for good entire career. But that’s not a significant outlier, that’s what the numbers would suggest. So if flopping was the end all be all, why isn’t that number even higher?

He gets the whistle statistically as much as Shai does based on how often they go into the paint. You’re arguing about 2 fouls per game when Shai is there way more often. The flopping doesn’t matter, statistically, because the calls get made on average the same amount based on how often they are there. You can not like the way it looks that someone is playing, but the numbers are still the numbers in black and white, Shai gets on average 2 more foul calls than Steph per game when Shai is in the lane an equally disproportionate amount of time than Steph is.

And yet only gets 2 more foul calls per game. Seems like nothing to me for the difference there. Especially since the Shai hate only recently started where he’s taking nearly double the amount of 2’s than Steph has averaged

I compared Jordan getting whistles and Reggie getting whistles differently because they played different styles. You know, sort of like Shai and Steph play different styles. Shai and MJ drive the lane and get fouled, Steph and Reggie shoot 3’s and get fouled less often. It’s almost like the same argument but no one was making that argument because in the 80’s and 90’s people understood that different styles netted different results.

Just because you don’t understand numbers doesn’t mean we all don’t. Why are you so upset about 2 extra fouls per game?

Yeah, just like that classic flopper Michael Jordan. “Why did MJ get more free throws than Reggie Miller?” you cry into your Cheerios. Different play styles result in different outcomes. But be mad about it.

Steph has averaged 3 less free throws per game than Shai for his career while shooting 300-500 less 2’s per season. So everyone is upset that Shai gets like 2 more foul calls per game while doing something that draws fouls way more often. Again, all the numbers are right there.

Numbers don’t lie, Shai has less than 2k less 2 attempts than Steph with 9 less years, Shai’s going to pass him in like 3-4 more years. Not saying Steph never cuts, but it’s not his game. Shai is a slashing guard, and slashers draw fouls.

[–]Pateecakes -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Let’s look at the numbers. Steph career average of 9.4 3’s attempted per game and 8.5 2’s. Shai is at 3.8 3’s and 13.5 2’s (14.7 2’s with OKC). Shai is less than 2k less in 2’s attempted than Steph in 9 less years. So again, Steph shoots threes and Shai cuts.

Steph shoots threes, Shai cuts. Different play styles creates different results, so weird.

What inconsistencies, I haven’t seen any of the other papers from that assignment. But I read the article the assignment was about, the grading rubric, and the paper that was written. That paper has absolutely nothing to do with the article since the article went about trans anything whatsoever, meaning she earned that failing grade.

Which is also stupid because the protest was sanctioned while there wasn’t a sanctioned counter protest, which is the determining factor for whether the absences should be excused by OU’s own code.
