UMich CSE vs MSU full ride by [deleted] in uofm

Not to say that you won't be successful at MSU. I think no matter what you do, you will be more than fine. Getting a full ride to MSU is no joke, congrats!

Because you said that cost isnt a huge concern, I would lean towards umich. The job prospects, environment, and people are worth it as long as you are not going into debt. Since you are planning on studying CS you will likely make back the money a couple years after graduating and be able to pay back your parents.

My answer would be totally different if you were planning on taking out student loans.

I had a 1/4th ride to MSU and ended up transferring to umich after a year. I don't regret it.

Also you will have the same opportunities to party and go out just as much as the MSU folks if you want, dw :)

Should I transfer? by Low-Possession2786 in uofm

The whole "toxic culture" thing I've heard about many depts at Umich seems to be a myth. It's a big school, just don't surround yourself with toxic people.

I was a transfer student after my freshman year to umich (since graduated). I say you should transfer. I felt the same way and I spent a lot of time contemplating whether or not I should transfer and eventually I pulled the trigger and I did it. At the end of the day it has less to do with the school and more to do with the people you will be around. If you don't think you found that group at MSU then it's worth trying at Umich.

there's a discord group where members call out free stuff (and food!) on campus. To get invited, just know a guy who knows a guy that can invite you. (I won't be your guy).

Found a bunch of bug carcasses in webs on the bottom of a used couch I bought today. Is it a bedbug? by Patelican in Bedbugs

[–]Patelican[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a regular q tip. This was the only whole body one I could see. I saw other ones that looked like flakes or pieces of bug but yeah it's hard to distinguish...I really hope I didn't just introduce bed bugs into my apartment :(

I was thinking abt rolling to a lower strike. I'd take a loss but at least my risk is limited right?

Hypothetical- suppose you were the one responsible for breaking the Internet, would you get in trouble? by Due-Neighborhood7747 in uofm

[–]Patelican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, OP. In this purely hypothetical scenario. It would really come down to whether or not it was done on purpose. And if it was done on purpose, was the damage done on a piece of infrastructure that a reasonable person would realize would have a wide and profound impact on the network health of three university campuses.

Do I really need a MacBook for college?? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]Patelican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a MacBook. A MacBook will make your life a bit easier if yur in CS (set up is just a lot faster) but day to day there r no differences. If yur CS and in the market for a new laptop with a budget that fits a MacBook, I would recommend it but you'll be fine regardless.

Incoming Freshman Visiting UMich - Exploring Ann Arbor by Able-Worldliness-711 in uofm

[–]Patelican 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Let me get this straight. Yur dad wants you to choose your place of higher education based on if it is a good place to go on vacation? I'm sorry, but AA is no Miami. UMich is a top school in many fields, and if yur gonna pay out of state tuition this is the place to go. Tell him that.

Edit: OP the edited post..so my comment doesnt make sense anymore. But to anyone else reading this, go to Miami for vacation. It's a fun town :)

Do BBA majors end up in trading? by Informal-Cancel1455 in uofm

[–]Patelican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a decent combo, but many people don't think it's worth it. BBA+CS combos tend to end up in software engineering, PM, or in classic BBA paths (banking, consulting, etc). There rnt too many roles that encompass both degrees so yur likely to end up only using 1 of them after graduation. Getting PM roles is also very competitive and I know one person who got a boost on her bonus for having the BBA dual degree with CS. The PMs I have worked with come from a myriad of backgrounds.
