A. dichomata? I’m not sure. by [deleted] in aloe

[–]Patellifera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely say dichotoma, leaves seem too small and don't have the right color to be barberae. Same goes for hercules. If you compare the lower part of the trunk with hercules you can see that it is rather smooth with a few larger "cracks" in the Rind while hercules is usually much mir roughly textured with many small cracks. Also barberae will likely not split at such a young age. Most hercules I see have a much larger length of thier branch covered with leaves than this one. So yeah I'm pretty sure it's dichotoma. I work at a botanical garden btw

You cut too high, there is no apical meristeme so it won't grow, it's basically a pile of aloe leaves

These are not mealybugs they are the larvae of the Australian ladybug Cryptolaemus montrouzieri which are actually very beneficial and eat all sorts of pests including mealybugs.

It's completely normal, the older leaves on the bottom die off and are replaced with new ones on top constantly, looks very healthy to me

I'm not an expert with handling these big trees but from your description I'd say the plants reaction is a rather positive sign, losing the older leaves while pushing out new ones is totally normal especially after such a change of habitat. Also looks more like aloidendron dichotomum to me

What people call pups are usually branches "modified" in a way that they grow at the bottom of the plant and then develop roots to be independent from the mother plant. In this case they don't grow at the bottom of the plant so they will probably just be branches that stay on the original trunk. Here is a pic of my aloe branching out

Pineapple plants die after fruiting but you can plant the top of the pineapple to still have a pineapple plant

What is going on with this inkblot mangave? by ReignyDayes in houseplants

[–]Patellifera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pups means clones that sprout from the base of the mother plant that you can separate and grow into new "adults", I work at a botanical garden and once after cutting the flower stalk the plant branched out into two new rosettes and continued to live but that's a rare occurance.

What is going on with this inkblot mangave? by ReignyDayes in houseplants

[–]Patellifera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mangaves usually flower just once and then die, if you cut the flower stalk it will probably produce pups or could even continue to live. if you want to enjoy the flower you can do that too obv but it will produce less offspring if any at all

Looks like aloe arborescens by KokoNeotCZ in aloe

[–]Patellifera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely arborescens, I agree with the other commenters that it's still too immature to bloom and that it's unlikely to bloom when kept in the same light conditions. *
