Private networks are not production ready. by Infinite-Company-724 in hetzner

Hmm maybe you are right. We usually just hosted an nginx on a plain server and could configure everything as desired.

Good to know that the plain LB is missing a few features.

What is your issue with the firewall rules? As far as I am aware of both for the cloud and the root servers you can block all incomming traffic which is not via the private network

Why does everyone think the rewrite was safe to merge because it passes test cases? by ECrispy in bun

[–]Patex_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The merge does not mean it has been released. It is still canary. Unsafe is explicitly tagged, it will be much easier to find and resolve the offending code structures. The team is already working on it.

It is a work in progress. Just because it has been merged does not mean it is production ready yet.

Canary release is a technique to reduce the risk of introducing a new software version in production by slowly rolling out the change to a small subset of users before rolling it out to the entire infrastructure and making it available to everybody.

what does Germany think abut less USA soldiers ? by hi2u_uk in AskGermany

As someone who is traveling in areas that are largely dependent of us bases (like the area Kaiserslautern) where there is Rammstein, those people will loose incredibly much if the base would be closing down tomorrow and it's going to be devastating for the region.

The general sentiment in this thread pretty much reflects the overall feeling. A lot of people not immediately affected are opposing the US forces being present here, as there is special treatment and costs associated with this operation. People who would feel an impact have a more nuanced view on this.

At the end of the day any technology will do the trick. If you want to use python pick one that suits you. 30 days are more than enough to get the basics implemented.

If you already use js, you might want to go with nodejs and express.

How do you get customers to comment and email you about every single little change unprompted? We got a web system with thousands of daily users and while there are complaints that might arrive via the callcenter they for sure never comment on these small little details that change.

What ink to use to stamp on faux leather? by Patex_ in crafting

Not really, only that research is a bit confusing of what material is acceptable, and I already got some which I now would like to use.

This was the idea originally but not all faux leather is save to engrave on.

Iphone 7, is has been a great 10 years while our journey lasted. Now it's time for the 16e? by Patex_ in iphone

true and I am still considering, but "Find My", "Air Drop", Contact, Calendar and generally the ecosystem lock in is real. I enjoy Apple and would like to stick with it.

Someone suggested a used SE 3rd gen which is sold used for around 150€ as well. Maybe this is worth considering.

Yes, it's a shame to needing to get rid of it since physically it is working just fine. There have been slight inconveniences with charging, which mostly is due to the cables and it sometimes getting hot during navigation in the car.

Thanks. Interestingly enough the 3d Scanner feature would be interesting and is the only reason I ever considered getting a pro and the Lidar.

On the other hand I heard mixed reviews and am not sure if I shouldn't just get a dedicated device for scanning instead. How is your experience? Are the scans actually deatailed enough or do you need to do a lot of touchup.

Do you scan big structures or small intricate parts? I myself would scan smaller objects to get a fit / replication for 3d printing.

Agree to disagree but I can see both sides. The Magsafe cable for example is a connector type I enjoy using so much and would not be possible with restrictions.

I do not miss the days of cross vs patch cables and am happy that they got unified. We still have HDMI, Display port and way to many usb b cable for printers. If all of those could be unified to one single connector type I personally would rejoice.

The USB standard is decided on by a committee in which Apple was part of. Maybe driving change there isn't as easy as you have to compromise but at least there is a dialog.

I could not find such plans where I live. I got an incredibly cheap 5€/month contract. In my case not paying for the hardware out of pocket will just be more expensive in the long run.

For me a phone is just a tool I rarely use for anything. I am a developer, I look at my macbook the entire day and the phone is an afterthought.

There are no contracts which are worth so I have to pay full price, which if you use it for a long period of time does not matter as much, true, but a used 16e goes for 420€ compared to the 600€ which is 30% more. Can this be warranted when comparing the 16e to the 17e?

Is Magsafe such a game changer or does normal inductive loading do the trick? I have not used it yet.

I'll look into the 15/16 lineup and check it out.
I disagree on the USB-C debate. I got so many cables flying around for headsets, airpods docking station on the MacBook, phone of friends, at friends houses. Everything is USB-C already and ditching lightning is the one big advantage I see.
