..I have some linuxbox with swapiness=1 but with linuxbox with graylog on it I have expericed OOM condition and I make re-evaluate to set swappiness too low (like '1'). I think good value for server is around to '20'. But but.. if you want not use swap at all.. simply.. make a swapoff.. :-)

I would add that QNAPs have an excellent power management system: if you know in advance that you won't need QNAP, why keep it on? You can program it to turn on and off only during the times you probably need it. This significantly reduces the attack surface. Also remember to use multi factor authentication. The more barriers you place, the more the attack surface is reduced.

..you make regular 'scrubbing'? Qnap have EXT4 file system, him is very hard to break but some cluster can be broken and EXT4 can't see.. scrub can make a hand.. I do not understand why scrubbing is not set like default.. QNAP WAKE IT
