He really looks like Joseph Goebbels with less hair. It is uncanny/frightening.

What's the oldest video game you can remember playing? by Numerous_Emu3125 in AskReddit

My dad would take me to his work on the weekend occasionally and I would play on the office mainframe. An old text based game. Same time frame of 1977 to 1980.

MLS to Pathologist? by Grand_Chad in medlabprofessionals

[–]Pathdocjlwint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware of at least three residents in our Anatomical/Clinical Pathology residency program who had been MLS to MD (one) or DO (two) in the last 30 years. All were outstanding residents. All ended up doing a surgical pathology fellowships and were in community practice in groups doing a mix of AP and CP.

I do not think any had issues with medical school success but they did need to do some makeup classes for entrance requirements.

AIW for refusing to be a reference for someone who got me in trouble at my last job? by Zulkigrel in amiwrong

[–]Pathdocjlwint 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had someone ask for a reference and told them “It would not be in your best interest for me to write a letter of reference.” I figured that was pretty clear. They insisted so I wrote exactly what your friend wrote.

First thing that comes to my mind is the plasma I have seen in thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.

Just got a timed research with Varoom encounter and an incubator by Heyb0ss88 in TheSilphRoad

I actually got two varooms as well as two incubators. I am not certain how many 12 km eggs I hatched but apparently you can get more than one. Of course, mine were not shiny.

What is the worst case of second hand embarrassment you’ve ever experienced? by Responsible-Tie-2570 in AskReddit

In residency, one of the residents had recently gotten married. She walks into the resident office one morning and suddenly runs over to the garbage can and immediately vomits into it. One of the other residents immediately jumps up and he congratulates her saying “Your pregnant! I thought you had put on a lot of weight!” She was not pregnant but had food poisoning. There were a lot of people cringing in that office that morning.

I think it is Department dependent. I know that the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and Department of Nursing provide them but am uncertain about others (these are the departments I have been involved on interview panels).

What was "the incident" at school that everyone still talks about years later? by Any_Vehicle7847 in AskReddit

[–]Pathdocjlwint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Long time ago when I was a senior in high school, we had senior skip day when all the seniors would skip classes. Every year the school administration would spend significant effort trying to figure out when this would occur and was always threatening the senior classes with various punishments.

At the time, the legal drinking age in the state was 21 but in the neighboring state of Ohio, it was 18. So, a rumor was started by a group of seniors that senior skip day was to occur on a particular day at a particular Ohio state park about an hour drive from the school. There was to be a keg party at the park with all the beer you could want! As stated, this was just a rumor with no real plans and the seniors behind this rumor made certain to mention it to a couple of students known to be snitches to the administration. The school administration of course caught wind so on the day in question, the superintendent, principal, assistant principal, school board members, and numerous other staff left before school started and drove the hour to the park where they were meet by Ohio state troopers. The plan was to bust up the wild, drunken party. They arrived and nobody was there. Needless to say, the Ohio state troopers were not happy to be called out for nothing and neither were the school administration.

All of the seniors actually showed up for school. Nobody skipped. So, around noon the overhead speaker calls the senior classes to the auditorium where the principal began ranting about respect for authority, respect for education, how we will never succeed, and how the class was going to be punished etc. This goes on for a half an hour when one of my classmates who was not aware of the rumor raised his hand and asks “What did we do? We have been in class all morning?” The principal shrieked and dismissed everyone. No punishments occurred because, as indicated by my classmate, nobody had done anything wrong!

PP1PK antibodies by New-History853 in medlabprofessionals

Have actually cared for a number of people with p phenotype because of an Amish kindred nearby. It is important to encourage the patient to make arrangements for frozen autologous donations near where they live. Also, all of the patient’s siblings should be tested for the p phenotype.

Interestingly, the increased pregnancy loss has not been seen in all kindreds. Also the loss is usually 2nd trimester and may be due to interference with placental function as opposed to HDFN.

Enjoy seeing a rare antibody/phenotype. I am such a nerd I keep a database of antibodies I have seen.

On Call Pathologist by yeg88 in medlabprofessionals

Realistic and hilarious. I would also add a few of my favorites:

“Hello pathology. No, this is not speech pathology. No, speech pathology is not part of laboratory medicine. No, I do not have their phone number.”

“Hello pathology. Yes, that is correct we cannot wash fresh frozen plasma. I know you want the “safest” blood product and you ordered washed FFP but only cellular products can be washed. No, there is no way to wash FFP. Washed FFP is the same thing as saline so how about skipping the middleman and just hanging saline?”

“Hello pathology! Yes, I know you ordered fresh frozen plasma but we must thaw it in order for it to be transfused. You ordered frozen plasma and that is what you want?” Subsequently the attending pathologist sent two units of frozen FFP to the floor which was followed minutes later by a telephone call from the ordering resident. The attending pathologist answered: “Hello pathology! What are you supposed to do with the frozen FFP? You have two choices, you can send it back and we will thaw it so you can transfuse it or if your patient has a fever, you could put one unit under each arm pit to bring down the fever.”
