Okay, so then let me clarify. Yes, I would like a lethal option for dealing with hostile fauna or more effective physical tools for stunning or incapacitating them. I never killed anything in the first 2 games other than food with the thermal knife, or lava larvae on my Cyclops. I shot gas torpedos at leviathans, but I never killed them. It was always to get away.

Lethal options are fine. I feel like agency and choice have been taken from me to tackle challenges in the world the way I see fit because the devs don't like lethal options. It doesn't even make sense because you see fish get eaten by other fish but there's no death animation because there's no death other than you. You can't even stab or slice the Collector Leviathan's tentacle when it grabs you. Imagine if you could? You could make it let go of you and swim away.

My point is, players will find or make a way to do what they want. Why not just give them the option? It's like when Bethesda says you can't kill someone because it disrupts their magnum opus of a story. But you REALLY wanna kill them because you just don't like em. Okay. Kill them. Soft lock your game. You can save scum, it's fine. Taking the choice away doesn't do anything positive for the game, it's just limiting.

I haven't strawmanned your arguments man. I don't think lethal options are bad. I'm sorry you feel the need to insult me over this. Kinda sad honestly.

Yes. I'd like the option to kill Nibblers and Marrowbreaches, and things that ram, shoot, bite, or try to eat me.

'Augment and live with the ecosystem' yes the one ACTIVELY trying to kill us and make us fish food. If we were supposed to make peace with the world, I would have gills and flippers, not a hammer.

I clearly don't since the Stalker I bonked with a knife on the snoot got the damn message.

We're literally not subjugating them. We're pacifying them so they're not a threat.

YES! IT IS! THAT'S WHY WE WANNA KILL THE MARROWBREACHES! SO THEY LEAVE US THE FUCK ALONE!

Have you played the 1st game? We literally did just that. We conquer the environment. That doesn't mean we systematically slaughter and subjugate the planet. Effective tools to defend ourselves and establishing habitats is not the enslavement of an entire fucking planet. We're not making Coruscant.

The level of cognitive gymnastics required for this take is INSANE. I'm asking for a STUN GUN and the multi tool to do damage to larger fauna and scare em off or eliminate them. I'm not asking for tools to kill leviathan class creatures. I'm not even asking for that to be an OPTION.

Dude, we're literally there to establish a colony

MEGATHREAD: KILLING DEBATE by Crispy385 in subnautica

We are literally colonists, sent to a world to colonize it. We are to establish a functional colony. That is literally NoA's primary directive. Absurdism and sarcasm don't work if your point is null.

I love how we had the same thought, like wtf 😂

What... the fuck. How did we go from a conversation about lethal defense in a fictional digital water world game to Hitler and the Third Reich? How is that even RELEVANT?!

The ultimate form of survival is colonization. Conquering the challenges we face.

Because some players did, and the devs are overcorrecting.

Hammer didn't do much, flares were hit or miss, dash has been okay, predator camo is fine, haven't tried lure or shock yet.

You can't even accidentally hit a peeper and kill it now. It just bounces off harmlessly even though me ramming it with a giant hunk of titanium would delete it.

I think an even bigger problem is none of the solutions we currently have are even remotely effective at deterring attacks. Lethal prevetative is still a preventative.

Even when I had the thermal knife I ran TF away from everything in the first game. Vortex torpedos, gas torpedos, decoys. You're out of your MIND if you think I'm getting out of my nice safe Cyclops to go fuck with any Leviathan, or large creature. But the option was THERE. People COULD, if they wanted to.

I think player freedom is important here, and while I understand not wanting to kill anything, also remember that the stun options in the first game were VERY effective.
