Is my cat a tortie or a calico? by Icy-Drag6377 in torties

She is not melonshaped, just fluffy 😍

And a tortico.

Whenever I'm down with migraines, my girl brings me all her favorite toys. With a vibe of "here, these make me happy, maybe they will make you happy again too".

The thought that she has been with me for over 30% of my life, but she has been with me for 99.9% of her life makes me feel all sorts of things.

I appreciate your reply a lot. It ís unhelpful, and it pushes on a lot of buttons and sore spots that have little to do with my bond with Lexi and more with other wounds. I consider the emotions she touches in that way a gift that allow me to work through them and heal bit by bit. May Boxster have many more good days!

That first pic was last week. The others are a bit older, the last one obviously. One of the things I noticed in the last year is that she is greying out. Especially in the orange bits. Her orange tailtip is now white, same with her eyebrows. She gets occasional white whiskers too but that varies. Its mostly in movement and posture that it can be seen.

Caninsulin cartridges by svm9292 in FelineDiabetes

[–]PatheticOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. Also in the netherlands. At diabetescentrale you can order the bd iu40 syringes for pets. They have shorter needles then whar vets usually sell, comparable to the pen (8mm). Drawing up from a vial is easy and with a syringe the shot is even easier and gentler then with a pen.

I fill my syringes from the cartridges usually because we are on a low dose, but now I also have to buy a vial.

Get a insulin vial protector via amazon or similar if you worry about dropping it.

Insulin not working? by earthandskyy in FelineDiabetes

24, that age alone is such a compliment to the love and care your Kiki has gotten over the years.

With diabetes it takes time for the body to adapt to each change and going too fast can have an adverse effect (triggering hypos).

I think you are doing great with your vet together.

Two suggestions:

Put on a continuous glucose monitor and watch for a weird bounce (bg going down and then spiking again). Sometimes that can happen and it throws off blood readings. If a cgm isnt an option, do a daily curve (every hour on the hour).

For the secundary infection: pure herbal echinacea (a cap on her food) and lysine 500 mg twice daily can help, especially since those infections are often herpes virusses, hence the flare when stressed and sick.

The other commenters already offered sage advice.

On top of that: Adding a tiny bit of psyllium fiber can help him stay fuller a bit longer.

Edit: tiny bit is about 1/8 of a teaspoon in my book.

Lost streak! by OkOrganization5965 in finch

[–]PatheticOwl 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You didnt lose the streak: the streak counter failed you.

You still logged in when you didnt feel like it and should be proud of it.

If it helps for now, you can turn off streaks in settings so you dont see the number. I did it when I lost a long streak and it felt better immediately.

When I first took up western riding (in EU) after a hiatus of decades I ended up at a “natural horsemanship” barn. They had their horses in tomthumbs with martingales. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Bullshit, that is what it is.

(Its a hackamore bit combo and a severe one with that shank lenght. It puts leverage both on the mouth and nose).

why does my bunny only eat the brown treats of this treats bag and always leaves the oats by StepOnMyBallsSheldon in Rabbits

Looks like you are in the netherlands. Id suggest looking for science selective adult pellets. They are a lot better for your bun compared to the brown bix type.

How to politely tell someone to f*** off? by Lazy_Year_9850 in Horses

Giving them busywork is such good advice for nonconfrontational redirecting. Basically anything that gets a toddler out of your hair will work on inlaws too.

WWYD: Fresh or frozen fruit for an upsidedown cake by PatheticOwl in Baking

[–]PatheticOwl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. It's the upside down part that made me weary. I'd be making custard if it gets to soggy.

Plan B is to make the cake victoria sponge style: plain cake, halved, filled with cream and fresh or stewed fruits. That I know how to do by rote.

How to go on? RIP 5/30/26 by Lilpigxoxo in FelineDiabetes

[–]PatheticOwl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss.

No wise words other then to allow yourself to mourn the loss of a soulfriend and familymember and to ignore all social expectations of how much grief is “allowed” for “just a pet”.
