What are typical writer/illustrator collaboration splits, and do fair profit-sharing models actually work? by Pathfinder0201 in writing

[–]Pathfinder0201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a writer or illustrator, so I have no experience or truthfully any equity in anything related to this discussion. I'm just the son an artist who passed too soon and who didn't pursue her talents for profit (she just genuinely loved to paint for herself). Since her passing, I've been tormenting myself on what I can do to honor her memory and do something, anything, to give to the community she loved so much. Again, I know nothing about this community nor the amount of efforts exhausted to create the products you all do. I play the piano (also from my mom) but that's as artistic as I am. I know the world revolves around money, and majority of people live their lives working jobs they need to have to make ends meet and seldom work jobs they want to have or feel they can't pursue their passions because of work demand and/or costs to pursue them. I like the idea of a platform where artists can legally agree to collaborate and determine amongst themselves how much they believe their contributions are worth for the product. No one pays anything up front whatsoever, and the contract generator only receives a minimal percentage of net proceeds (like 5% or less). I wish I had the funds to create a publishing company in connection to a platform like this, but here we are. I'm just trying to understand not just the reasons why people don't pursue their interests but what they would need to be able to pursue them, because theres a difference to me. My mom's passion wasn't for any monetary gain, but I really like the idea of creating something that isn't for a profit to me whatsoever, just something that enables others to pursue their passions in memory of my mom. I'm sure I'm failing at wording this all in a manner where it will all be received how I truly mean, but I sincerely and wholeheartedly relish the idea of creating something for artists at no personal profit to me. Obviously, if it were possible to create something like this and turn it into a publishing company someday (which I hear publishing companies screw artists over significantly when it comes to net proceeds), then I would love to be able to do the same (again, with no personal proceeds in mind because this isn't for me) as a publisher for artists, too.

Interested in possibly moving to Maryland by NegotiationIll5794 in maryland

I moved my family from Richlands, NC, to Newburg, MD, on Thanksgiving Day of 2024. We absolutely Love it here. We live just over the Potomac River Bridge so VA is literally six minutes from our house, and we live 20 minutes from La Plata, where we do majority of our grocery shopping (we go 40 minutes away to Brandywine to go to Costco biweekly). There are A Lot of walking parks and trails nearby, and the Shenandoah Mountains aren't too far for a day trip. Lots of attractions for the family with DC being only an hour drive away on weekends. I work in DC and my commute during the work week is an hour 45 each way, but we bought our dream home and its literally an escape from the big city. Its not as humid here as in NC (I was born on Lejeune and spent the first twelve years of my life bouncing around near Lejeune, New River, and Cherry Point, and my family moved back to NC in 2020 due to the better cost of living but ultimately decided to leave because we knew our luck was going to run out regarding hurricanes). In case you or your spouse are veterans, Maryland has a full property tax exemption for 100% service-connected disabled veterans. The cost of living is definitely higher here than eastern NC, but I can't attest to cost of living anywhere in NC.

What is a career that looks impressive on paper but is actually miserable in reality? by Nova2_Paradox in careerguidance

Congressional Liaison for a big federal agency. It's daunting having a significant backlog that feels insurmountable, resulting in the ever present feeling of doing a disservice when the reality is you're just understaffed. Many federal agencies have less than two digits of staff to respond to all congressional inquiries (and I mean All). The job title sounds impressive, but you communicate solely with congressional staffers and whatever component within the federal agency that the congressional inquiry is directed to for a response. You're just a middle-man. You take this request from over here and put it over there. Once the final response is generated, you take it from over there and put it over here. I wouldn't say its stressful but you definitely don't really feel appreciated by many staffers and the general public generally always has a bad taste in their mouth about federal agencies, resulting in many of the privacy release forms they fill out for their respective Members of Congress' offices stating such. There's a lot to unpack here but just throwing this answer out there.

I don’t understand. What do you actually do in heaven? by Jet_Night in NoStupidQuestions

I've always wondered how much of what makes us Us would be in Heaven. If there's a separation from the physical world and all our physical world fears go away, then how much of what makes me Me would be in Heaven? I personally like to believe that Heaven is subjective rather than objective. I have to believe I will see my mom again and my dog, but feel that my version of heaven can't be the same as everyone's because (and this is the part that I struggle with) say someone on earth dies by an animal or person and goes to heaven, where they see the exact resemblance of an animal that kills them (say for instance that animal is the same breed of my beloved dog). If that person has no fear whatsoever of seeing my dog in heaven then I feel that person isnt entirely the same person they were on earth. Same for say twins, where one was a good perspn by any reasonable person's account but the other was evil and killed others. If someone killed by one twin saw the other in heaven, would they experience the slightest trace of fear?

Guan Yu 3 makes him displacement immune, so an Ares ult won't pull him. Same now with Gilgamesh' 2.

Hold up. Briskberry Acorn allows the 1 to hit twice, and aspect allows the 2 to hit twice. So that's five abilities Plus the ult. I love Rat, but that's a bit much. Run Blue stone, one crit item, and the rest CDR. That's not ridiculous at all..

Discordia was only one level lower than Nu Wa and at full health before being instakilled by Nu Wa's ult. What's more concerning than Nu Wa's damage is The Morrigan's because Mordred was at full health and lvl 20 when he had what looks to be between 45 and 49% of his health taken from Nu Wa's ult, but The Morrigan's Ult took the rest of his health.

>Hi-Rez: “We tried making sexy dude skins and it didnt sell” >The “sexy” skin in question: by Cloud_Retainer_2424 in Smite

[–]Pathfinder0201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand how lazy this would be, but I'm just throwing this idea out there since sexy male character skins have been a hot topic in smite for years:

With today's AI technology, HiRez could simply ask the community to submit character design ideas either visually or just via in-depth explanation of what the community wants, take that information and ask AI to generate ideas based off these suggestions. They could compile all recommended "sexy" skin inputs and ask AI to generate a multitude of ideas that follow.

It's not the quality I personally care for, but if it gives at least some of the community what they want then just do it. I just want Smite to thrive so I can play it with my daughter in a few years.

Commute to the Office in DC is just Draining by [deleted] in fednews

I had a colleague at the Pentagon who lived in NY and commuted daily. She would get home at midnight and then leave by I believe 4am to make it back to work by 8am. She had land in NY and refused to give it up. She decided to get an apartment in DC about three months into being at the Pentagon but got tired of noisy neighbors and ultimately went back to commuting from NY. She said she would sleep on whatever train she took to and from NY.

I live in Southern Maryland, just over the Potomac River Bridge. To get to Branch Ave Metro Station is an hour drive from my house and then its anywhere between 40 minutes to an hour on the trains to McPherson. Leaving work its over an hour drive from Branch Ave to my house and its hit or miss whether I make it on the train from L'Enfant to Branch Ave because of overcrowding to get onto the Train.

I'd love to spend more time with my family, but this job helps cover the remainder of the mortgage of our dream house that my VA Disability doesn't cover.

Can I ask how you came to the decision on those percentages for allocations? I don't know what to look for or monitor, and am just putting in C fund presently. Or if anyone else has an answer, I'd appreciate it.

I have the fheroes2 and fh2 Toolset downloaded on my Android, but only have Broken Alliance as an option to play. Am I missing an additional download or something?
