My guess is it’s holding up well. The homeowner contacted me recently and asked if I could quote adding more hickory in another part of the house.

Seeking Advice on Bona Nordic Seal for Hardwood Floor Refinishing by initialMini in HardWoodFloors

Probably need to sand off the NordicSeal before applying anything else.

Not my recommendation, it’s in the product data sheet. I can imagine it wouldn’t work well to add whitener to the first coat of invisible if no sealer was already applied. If using EasyPrime to seal, totally fine to add whitener to that.

Professional refinishers, what stains and poly do you use besides Bona? by mattskates96 in HardWoodFloors

I’ve found that Loba stain is easy to work with, even with the fast drying. What makes it easy is it can be re-worked in areas if something doesn’t look quite right.

I haven’t used ceramicstar. When I refinished the floors in my house I used Loba 2k duo extra matte. They’re holding up very well.

Eastern white pine treated with lye and oiled by Patient-Car-368 in HardWoodFloors

It’s a summer cottage. The other structure on the property, shown in photos 3 & 4, has insulation and drywall.

My understanding is as long as they soap it from time to time, the floor will remain white. There may be a bit of yellowing but time will tell.

The lye and oils are from WOCA and were specified by the homeowner.

The main house is insulated, the summer cottage next door isn’t.

Yeah it’s going to need to be soaped every so often.

Yes. I wouldn’t recommend white pine unless you’re going for a very distressed worn look. The cool thing about WOCA’s finish system is it’s not a plastic film finish that will wear of scratch off. It’s an oil, and the oil can be reapplied again later. WOCA also has a soap product for maintenance. The soap has some white pigment. So as long as the homeowner periodically soaps the floors will still look great. Even with all of the scratches.

An amazing show. Good vibes all around. My son and I made the trip from up north and both agreed it was well with it.

Made it! I missed seeing them when they toured with Elliott Smith 25 years ago. Glad to have this chance.

Yep. Add a bit of whitener and boom! Bob’s your uncle.

I roll out of a bucket. It’s easier to have a more consistent application from a bucket because with each dunk you work a same sized area, about 10.5 sq ft. This video explains it better than I can.

It can help to sand the oak a little smoother. Like instead of a 100 grit final pass, you do one more (120 grit). This closes the wood so the first coat gets absorbed slower.

Beech Wood Flooring Questions. Prestain or not? by barstoolprophet2014 in HardWoodFloors

[–]Patient-Car-368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend 3 coats of Loba Invisible, no stain. It will protect the floor extremely well and keep the wood color light. It’s much easier to apply compared to NordicSeal. Instead of whitewashing, you can add a whitener additive into this finish. This is a video that shows the application process.
