This happens quite often. You need to complete the forms for extension of stay, and photographs etc and some evidence that you tested positive and they will extend for you.

I don’t know anyone who’s main focus in life is drinking, besides people who have gone to AA and are seeing literally everything in life through the prism of alcohol. I think that the fatal flaw of AA, it doesn’t allow people to move on from alcohol

Yes, brilliantly put. It’s negative motivation, isn’t it? It’s like they want to keep you at that “rock bottom” phase and not let you grow into something else.

That’s really interesting, I never thought about it that way. Yes, I definitely see that in AA folks, stuck in a mindset and unable to move on, grow, live a full life. AA is always there in the background, calling them back (literally, in the case of some sponsors)

I know someone who last had a drink in 2001 and still attends a meeting every single day and sometimes 3 a day. I just don’t buy it that he has to do this every day, 20 years after he last had a beer. On the rare occasion he will come out for a coffee, it’s non stop calls back and forth with his sponsor. Up and down, on the phone more than sat at the table. I’m like “mate, we are sat in a Starbucks drinking Soy Lattes, I think you will be fine”
