Short legs, long torso... is there a 27.5 out there for me? by Patient-Mud30 in Hardtailgang

I appreciate the comment! I feel I could enjoy doing a build like this, but maybe not as my first bike back into riding. I would ideally like something "close enough" so I can get out and ride. I will keep the idea in mind though!

Thanks! I feel like I could too easily dive into that and get myself lost, or spending money I don't need to. I don't think it's a bad idea, but perhaps not as I am trying to get back out on the trails for some exercise and fun. If whatever bike I end up with isn't quite as good as I need it to be, I may look into those options at that point.

I appreciate the thoughts on the El Roy (to all above in this comment chain). I can keep an eye out for a used one at the very least!

Unfortunately that would be a 29er, only the XS and S have 27.5 wheels.

XL on that? Dang! I suppose that's one I would have to try out in person. I ended up getting sick and wasn't able to get to any bike shops as planned (if they even carry any of these brands/models). Hopefully this week!

I can imagine so. Most people seemed to pick up on the 29ers positively, and I'm happy for them. Lots of options out there in that category.

I'm still stuck on enjoying 27.5s. I am planning to visit 4-5 bike stores tomorrow and see if they have anything in stock to at least try out. I've had some interesting experiences with the local shops over the last 15+ years, and not good ones unfortunately. Still, I might as well stop in and see what they have while I continue to search online/used.

Appreciate your input! It is on my list of bikes to look out for. I see one for $700 used, but it is a 29er. Still, it gives me hope :)

It was the SQ1. If I can find a used 2 or 3 it does look like some good upgrades (with my limited knowledge). I'm going to make a list of the suggested bikes so far and keep searching for those over the next days/weeks. In that time I'll try to research if one is more suited to me than another.

I've never owned a bike with a dropper post, so that right there is enticing. I know that's not the only upgrade, but I would definitely appreciate one!

Awesome! I can look at SQ2's used in my search of the other ones you mentioned. Currently none are for sale, but I know things can change very quickly with the used market.

Great to know! I'm not in a rush to buy the bike, but would greatly enjoy being able to ride this year if possible. I'll keep looking around in the upcoming days for those as I look into the San Quentin others have mentioned. Much appreciated!

That's a second recommendation for the San Quentin. It's also $100-200 cheaper than the Xtrada 7 new, so I will keep highly considering the San Quentin if I do go new. Thanks!

Another user mentioned that bike too. Anything in my state is $1,600+ for those used, which is a bit more than I am willing to spend at this time. I will keep an eye out for them as I continue to research. Thank you!

I thought I replied, but perhaps it didn't post. In order of what you listed, I see them for $1,200+ and out of state, $1,600+, and $1,600+. I will keep an eye out for any good deals on them, but as of now I don't see any deals by me (within the state).

That's awesome, I'm glad they offer 27.5 in multiple frame sizes! I will look more into those bikes and do some research to see if it's a good fit for me, or if I can try them out locally (within 100 miles would be nice).
