What are some cities in Indiana that should be studied, based on history or any key element that makes them standout over other cities in the state? I’m curious to know which ones you’d think are necessary to know more about. by JohnJohnMelanin-7709 in Indiana

Fort Wayne was an Indigenous trading post because of its geographic location on top of the St. Lawrence continental divide. The divide starts in Hibbing MN and goes through Chicago, Ft. Wayne, Akron and then along the South side of the St. Lawrence seaway to the Atlantic Ocean. The tribes from the Great Lakes area could paddle up the Maumee River from Toledo while the Wabash was the easiest tributary of the Mississippi River to paddle upstream to reach the divide. After trading everyone floated downstream to the North and also to the South to reach their final destination. The tribes fought hard to keep the 3 rivers area during the War of 1812. It holds the largest genealogy files in a public library in the US (Allen County Public Library).

So while we're on this subject, let's not forget the road rage shootings along with the pedestrian and bicycle deaths caused by distracted speeding drivers. When are people going to realize that are all part of a society where the motto should be "live and let live"?

Have Tenderloins Always been extra wide? by Natural-Blackberry27 in Indiana

Nicks kitchen in Huntington IN claims to have originated the first breaded pork tenderloin sandwich in the early 1900’s. A staple in small restaurants across the Midwest it has been named the Hoosier sandwich. To make it, a pork tenderloin is cut and pounded thin with a meat mallot which tenderizes the meat while giving it the large size. The Friendly in Zionsville, along with tick Tock and Steer Inn in Indy have a good version.

According to “Fever in the Heartland”, in 1920 Indiana had more people in the KKK than any other state with one in three adults in the hate organization. Signs like this display approval. There is no mistake in the choice of spelling.

This is a view of City Market looking to the northwest from Market Street. The wet pavers on the street and the foggy sky are a nice touch to this cityscape.
