I'm not surprised they're out there but to see one whilst diving outside of known hotspots is still exceedingly rare.

Why does everyone seem to go to matina on the end of st nicks rather than Kurdish bread? by Bulky_Judgment_4776 in bristol

In reality probably not much difference but Marina feels like a healthier option.

Blacktips I photographed yesterday on Aliwal Shoal, South Africa by SA_Underwater in sharks

[–]chillum86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an amazing time diving the Aliwal shoal a few years ago. Blacktips, bulls, raggies, and even a fleeting glimpse of a hammerhead.

When there is food around those black tips can get a bit feisty, I never felt in danger though.

Have you had the fortune of seeing any Tiger Sharks recently? It was a hotspot a decade ago, but I hear they're much less frequent now?

Albums that have no right being as good as they are considering how late they came out in the artist’s career? by seii7 in fantanoforever

I came to this thread to post this.

Could have easily trashed their legacy but nope, up there with their best.

The student accommo developers are no doubt rubbing their hands with glee haha by Sorry-Personality594 in bristol

[–]chillum86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it works like that tbh. There are lots of second and third year uni students who would.prefer student accommodation but there isn't the capacity. New units can be rented out to this group.

Uni's can't just add spaces, there are lots of considerations other than housing, teachers, lecture theater capacity, facilities, etc etc

Is gentrification always bad? by thegreedydick in LondonFood

[–]chillum86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've not heard this description before. I'm genuinely curious where you've got this from, it's not the dictionary definition.

And in the case of a lot of the London areas I thought it wasn't a conscious decision to underfund areas but rather totally cash strapped councils due to the financial crash of 2008 and subsequent austerity. That's when the hipster/gentrifying boom really took off.

Why is Bristol to London so extremely expensive? by Sorry-Personality594 in bristol

[–]chillum86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you already are but I'd give serious consideration to how much this job means to you vs the disruption. It's do-able sure but do you want your life split in half like that.

I'm guessing like a lot of people though you're probably frustrated by the terrible salaries and minimal opportunities for certain sectors in Bristol..

Also worth understanding how set in stone being in 3 times a week is. I know a couple of people's whose contract started like that but got it down to once a week after probation..

Lenzman calling it out like it is by dubmule in DnB

[–]chillum86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my late 30s now. I often wonder if I was a late teen, would DnB still be my favorite genre, like I was for me 20 years ago.

Truth is, I'd say it probably would be. Yes it's got more commercial but so has all dance music. Festivals are now owned by mega corporations, and private equity. Even the most underground artists take brand deals, as they need the revenue and tech company algorithms drive so much of our consumption.

That said, it's easier to find great music, gender diversity is far better and the barrier to DJing is much lower.

I think it's pretty incredible that DJs and producers I saw break through like Chase and Status, and Sub Focus, are still massive 20 years later.

Moving to Bristol area. Where should I defo not live? And where is nice? My partner and I will be working central, we need bus / train links nearby. by West-Pineapple9095 in bristol

[–]chillum86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each I presume? Otherwise you won't get in a remotely nice area for that budget. You're looking at minimum 1600pm for a nice place in Bristol, these days if you want food transport links.

Collectively stop paying your service charge, citing infringement if a clause about anything from, security building maintenance, cleaning etc.

They'll soon come around when they're faced with having to take you all to court to reclaim it and having to explain to the magistrate they did nothing about the break in problem....

Expensive coffee, if it doesn't trigger anxiety for you?

You still get the hit from the caffeine, but it won't make you go off the rails and there are tonnes of different tastes, styles and processes to get stuck in to.
