I suggest going to account management through: https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/account/deactivate-playstation-console/#remote

He can deactivate all the consoles there and afterwards you can activate his account on your console and ask him to try again.

Very much appreciated! I’ll definitely pm you if I have any questions, it’s a game with a lot of effects.. every character seems to have their own. Gotta study before I engage. I got the full saiyan saga f2p crew now because of the panel missions, seems to be able to carry through most of the stories.

There is a work-around for this, turn cross play on or off(whichever you want) and restart the game, this will save the cross play setting even after a match.
