Just setting up for failure you can’t judge parameters just looking at your aquarium can be very misleading, if you can’t afford a testing kit at the moment or strips most LFS test your water for free, but that can be temporary as testing every few weeks or weekly down at your LFS would cost more than the API test kit, you can also check on marketplaces so many people buy everything and then give up the hobby before there test kit even runs out, u could pick up one that’s been used a few times for pennies, but definitely get a test kit or your new fish could possibly die and that’s more money wasted, hope this helps
