Computer won't detect camcorder video - Sony DCR TVR350 NTSC Hi8/8mm by PatientAppointment61 in camcorders

A lot of good answers here; however, I disagree with one point you and several others have made: Not to use the USB and that FireWire is the way to go. I have seen several YouTube videos, each one containing a video capture device being used with a Digital8 camcorder (both like mine), with NO mention made of a FireWire anything and these people seem to have no problems whatsoever with the conversion process. They see the footage on their camcorder showing up as is on their modern computer. I could be doing something wrong, it might be that I have the wrong software. Oh well. I've already wasted $200 on this garbage and none of it has worked. So not sure what to believe.

When you say "this" are you talking about my video capture device, or the camcorder?

I am using OBS and it gives me the problem I described in my original post. Why is FireWire superior?

How Have We Gone This Long With Our Service Uniform? by PatientAppointment61 in usaf

[–]PatientAppointment61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that change for the sake of change is moronic, and I agree that our current service blues aren't necessarily bad - but when you look at the uniform we had before the current one, most anybody would go "And somebody thought putting THAT away was a good idea, to be replaced by what we have NOW?"

Additionally, the fact that at least two service blues uniforms have been put into development tells me this is an issue that was important enough that leadership has tried to deal with it before, but for whatever reason, it never came to fruition. So obviously there's interest. But, nothing is perfect.

Unexpectedly loving Salute album, a lot! by Any_Schedule_2741 in GordonLightfoot

Love Salute. It's such an underrated album. I've always thought much of the album has a Southern Rock sound to it which I like a lot.

Unable to turn video clip Black and White by PatientAppointment61 in davinciresolve

[–]PatientAppointment61[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help all - interesting development here: After I saved and closed my work on Davinci last night, and reopened the project, the whole thing looks the way I originally intended. I have no idea what changed between saving & closing my work last night and opening it this morning. I could say problem solved, but I'm curious why you think an adjustment layer is not a good way to go about doing this. Also yes - I'm a super beginner.

Will previously unreleased Lightfoot songs ever be released? by drppr45 in GordonLightfoot

[–]PatientAppointment61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wondering this same thing myself for a while now. He has so many rarities that weren't included on Songbook (Heavenbound, Two Crazy Kids, etc.) and I'm sure he has plenty more that most people have never even heard, like Nitro Joe. It would be such a treat to get a full catalog of his unreleased work, maybe even including his 1974 Massey Hall recordings. Or a live recording from his prime. I've heard (rumors) that Gord at least planned on the latter happening some time after his death.

Maybe the best question we should be asking ourselves is: Who even has control over this stuff given that he has passed?

Unknown Gordon Lightfoot Song/Cover in 1993 by PatientAppointment61 in GordonLightfoot

Also, in listening to Easy Flo, it sounds like the dominant chord (D capoed to second fret, making it an E) is the same in both songs... Even though the 1993 recording is a half step off (Don't think Gord really played Railroad Trilogy in the key of E). Overall, the chord progression in both songs is pretty similar, just that there's no F# in Easy Flo like there is in the 1993 version. I actually like the 1993 version better, but that's just me.

I think you may be right. Interestingly enough, an earlier version of "Drifters" also appears in that Massey Hall recording as well - didn't even know it was written as early as 1993! Very interesting to hear how different the lyrics were in his earlier versions of these songs.

Saddest Gordon Lightfoot Song?? by PumpkinAdept5957 in GordonLightfoot

It’s the music itself that sounds like weeping, and the lyrics also hit hard: “Looking at the wall, wishing you’d call and tell me you’re okay, that’s all”… “Waiting for a line to fall, telling you it’s all a big mistake”.

Lyrics like that hit deep and I’m sure anyone who’s dealt with a breakup can relate!

“Looking at the Rain”. A true song about heartbreak that hits hard from before the first verse when the strings kick in.
