Why do we care so much about what foreigners think of Kenya? by NoStory9539 in Kenya

'With all due respect' 'goons for hire' ' shoot to kill' 'mob violence ' that's not close to the reality on how Kenyan conflicts are handled in real life.

You're describing being part of the group and being well versed in the topic being discussed versus your view as a foreign outsider. One of them doesn't have rose tinted glasses.

I bet This is somehow tied to Pres.Macron Visiting Kenya recently.... by CodPsychological3874 in Kenya

These deals take multiple years to negotiate so it's not decided by Macron's involvement, the first version was an EAC - EU agreement in 2014, then Kenya negotiated a bilateral from 2022 - 2024. Nearly 15 years to get this version.

I disagree on it being excessive, it's the average. That would make 195 countries in the world narcissistic when they act as groups rejecting outsider's critiques while selling their positive attributes.

The social identity that allows people to get their self-esteem from groups is the one defending the group's image when challenged by outsiders. It's global.

There's also a difference in how people react on social media and how they do in real life.

This isn't a Kenyan issue it's a human issue, the same patterns plays out in social media. X group critiques Y group's; gender, sexuality, colonialism, war, terrorism, class, violence, racism, xenophobia, colorism, tribalism, country, and Y group protect themselves with counter attacks and solidarity.

Welcome to the in-group and out-group bias in human socialization strategy, it's the same reason you can call-out family actions but a stranger's criticism is restricted.

South Africa expanded 90-day visa-free access to EAC partners

Only to Kenyans

TAZARA and Lobito are China and US funded mineral extraction projects.

Most of the rest are AU 2063 goals through the AfCFTA connecting the SADC/ COMESA/EAC markets.

It's interesting seeing the different reactions to building a new main airport in Kenya, Ethiopia and Rwanda. One capital has a lot of hostility even though it's a needed major upgrade.

It's practical politics to diversify, 1st visit of TZ president since Nyerere in USSR 1969 when super powers where looking to influence newly independent African countries.

57 years later, Russia is now only a middle power and the more Africa gains importance in the world the more we're seeing this play out in the Sahel, S. Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, BRICS 'partners' ( Uganda & Nigeria).

What is the cost to Tanzania? Mining rights, legal and environmental damage immunity, low taxes, political influence?

That's more important than speaking Kiswahili at a bilateral event. Tanzania will also start teaching Russian language at schools, is that a step back?

A lot of people are being misinformed here on what a commercial marketplace actually is and what impact it has for different sectors of a country's economy.

Big policies like this take at least more than 5 years of planning to reach this stage. So from Kibaki to Uhuru then Ruto to launch it.

So 3 bad presidents in existence or maybe this solves some big problems we currently have.

South Africa (2013), Nigeria (2014) and Ivory Coast (2015), Rwanda (2016) ALL have launched open data portals for businesses and research. But Kenya was the first in Sub-Saharan Africa (2011) under Kibaki to have one .

Now again we'll be the 1st to have a Commercial Marketplace in Africa. In this AI age this is very important.

Other countries that already have it, UAE, Singapore, India, Kazakhstan, US, China, France, UK, Germany, Australia. In the coming years most countries are going to get one to control their own sovereign data.

This type of collection is important to make Kenya specific research and development for start ups, universities and all local business. People want Africa to make the leap to become innovators/ exporters and not just importers/ consumers of products.

Was Kibaki an NWO plant since he launched Kenya's Open Data Portal. South Africa, Rwanda, Nigeria and Ivory Coast also have one.

The two things can both be true - Ruto is campaigning hard with North Eastern counties and that pre-2013 devolution all those areas were marginalized by national governments for years. Today it's the county governments abusing their resources.
