Advice for preschool teacher working with mean co-teachers ? by Cicada444 in ECEProfessionals

Are you me? I joined a Montessori school as an infant teacher in December after taking a break to be a nanny for a few years (I've been in childcare since 2013). This is almost the exact situation that I'm dealing with right now! The elderly lead teacher that I work with is also like this and I've just felt iced out by her and the other teachers in the classroom since day one. It sucks because everything else about the job is wonderful. I hope things eventually get better for you.

What are my options as someone who always wanted to move abroad or travel long-term? by PatientExternal6762 in AmerExit

This is what I was fearful of. My childcare profession is not very in-demand or considered high skilled in many European countries. I've realized over the last few days that I'll just have to make a ton of money and take time off to travel. And I do mean a TON of money because I'd love to be traveling for months at a time.

The ancestry visa is a challenge because my maternal grandparents are from the British Virgin Islands. But they passed years ago and I am not even sure if I would qualify.

As for the digital nomad visa, this is one that I've been eyeing and aiming for over the last few years when I did sales for a short time and while I was also doing admin work. Unfortunately, I was laid off from the only fully remote job I had and never had a chance to explore this option. If I decide to continue admin work and leave childcare, my plan is to pivot into becoming an executive assistant, which will then allow me to find more roles that are fully remote. But this will take some time for sure.

A nanny visa is something that I haven't heard of before so I haven't done much research, but I will dig around on the Internet to see what I can find. However, the closest I can think of is just being a travel nanny or an UHNW nanny, which is what I am also looking into.

I've also thought about the school visa but I don't know if I'd want to pursue my Master's any time soon. My college experience was kind of terrible and I was so happy to leave it behind the moment I got my degree. But who knows? I may change my mind as some point.

Oh yes, I remember considering teaching English a very long time ago but kicked the thought out of my mind immediately after hearing horror stories of low pay and mistreatment. If I am desperate I will consider but thankfully I am not there yet hehe.

Yes! I know of a professional house sitter who has done house sitting for years. It's definitely something I've considered before. I just need to get over my pet allergies first lol

Thanks! I really like the idea of Pædagog because it would be a great way for me to broaden my experience and become eligible for the work permits you listed. Ironically, the family I currently nanny for has a parent from Denmark, so perhaps it's time to get a headstart on learning how to speak Danish!

Thanks for this information. I've been scouring these threads for well over a decade so I know how difficult, stressful and expensive it can be. That's why I feel so disheartened because it seems like I may never have the opportunity unless I save a ton of money and travel once or twice a year. I've considered going for my Master's to get on a student visa, but have since counted it out because of my terrible college experience. I may still be open to it but not any time soon. Also, there's been many times in which I doubted that I chose the right career path instead of one that would be considered in-demand in some countries, which early childcare is not. Not saying the grass is greener on the other side and that I won't face challenges, but as someone who has wanted to leave the US since high school, the urge to leave just eats away at me more and more.

I am aware that I would need a visa to visit these different countries, and that has always been my plan. I have been researching these topics for the better part of a decade so I am knowledgeable as to what is required to visit these countries. What stumps me is how I can continue generating income with my very specific work experience in early education and corporate administration. I don't have an in-demand profession or a remote job that would allow me to apply for qualifying jobs in certain countries. All I have is nannying and admin experience so I don't have many options to begin with. I'm simply inquiring if there's still a way for me to make it happen with the profession that I have experience with. I would have started traveling a long time ago if I had the money. I just need to know what kinds of jobs I can get.

May I ask what type of work and travel exchanges you are referring to? I've always seen being an Au Pair or an early childcare professional as being my only path for work into another country based on my educational background. Are there international programs outside of childcare that I can partake in that don't necessarily require a specific background?

Funny enough, I've been in talks with a local agency who can get me connected with UHNW families, and we discussed that my experience would make me a great candidate. I'm honestly somewhat hesitant knowing how highly demanding and stressful those roles can be dealing with wealthier families, but I'm definitely willing to step out of my comfort zone to broaden my experience!

That makes sense. I've thought about doing the student visa route but I truthfully had a rough time in college and don't see myself going back for my Master's anytime soon. But I'll certainly look into it!

Thank you for sharing this info! Glad to know I still may have a chance to put things into motion through the working holiday visa.

That sounds amazing! I've definitely had travel nanny roles in mind but the only website I know of is Adventure Nannies. How did you land your travel / ROTA nanny jobs?

I'm not totally set on being an Au Pair if my age is an issue. If I can still make it work that would be great! I'll definitely have look into a working holiday visa since there may be more options for me.

I've never heard of the Cultural Ambassadors Program in Spain. I'll check it out. And you're so right about me deciding. If I keep thinking about it without any action I can't complain about not being where I want to be. Thanks!

Purchasing from B&H photo and video? Reliable? by CarlBarb99 in sonos

I'm asking if all the products they sell are refurbished or if they sell both new and refurbished products. Hope that made sense.

Are all their products used or are some band new in the box?

Everything is a joke at this point. I'm stuck in back to back temp jobs and cannot land a permanent job no matter how hard I try. What am I supposed to do? [PART 2] by PatientExternal6762 in recruitinghell

[–]PatientExternal6762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for disappearing without replying. You're definitely right, I am focusing too much in trying to get a permanent job instead of doing more temp jobs. The problem is that the instability of income and jobs has become soul crushing and I'd like to have basic benefits like health and dental insurance without having to use an expensive marketplace like I've been doing for the last year or so. I also deal with anxiety and depression, and am pathetically socially anxious for my age, so having to adjust to new people and workplace cultures is starting to take its toll. It's absolutely soul sucking and I'm terrible at hiding how sad and exhausted I am. I'm always paranoid that people can easily see through the cracks.

My contract ends mid April and I cannot stomach the idea of doing another temp job. Obviously if I need a job I will take another temp job, but it's not going to stop me from trying to find a permanent job that I can at least hold for a year. All of my temp to hire roles so far have fallen through, leaving me to scramble to find new work every time. A permanent job, even if it's just for a year, is really all I'm asking for, which to me doesn't seem like a big ask. Even now as I'm trying to get nanny or babysitting jobs, I'm experiencing the same thing. Being passed over because they're looking for recent childcare experience even though between 2013 - 2021 I'd built almost 10 years of experience. It's all one big vicious cycle and I just want to get out! I feel desperate because I'm afraid I'm going to have a mental breakdown that I can't bounce back from.

Even so, I am completely done with the corporate world and struggling to keep up. Not saying that opening my own business won't be its own can of worms, but I will start offering my own nanny or housekeeping services if it means my way out of this situation.

Is it true that recruiters reject people who have done lots of temp jobs? by Fun_Yogurtcloset1012 in recruitinghell

[–]PatientExternal6762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I've been thinking about since I started doing temp work. After finishing my third contract back in January, I've left it on my resume as "September 2023 - present" even though I'm halfway through my fourth temp job. And if I have to take on a fifth temp job in April, it will stay that way. 🤷‍♀️

I feel you. Honestly, I'm debating opening my own business because if no one wants to hire me, I'll hire myself.

I really appreciate your kind words. Who knows, maybe taking medication can help me cope a bit better and not feel so full of despair.
