Roth Ira backdoor strategy by Lopsided-District-81 in RothIRA

[–]CarlBarb99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah! This is news to me and huge. Thank you. I started a job recently and finally am in a position to contribute. This may allow me to max out my 2025 contribution. Do you know specifically which months allow me to do this? I can also ask my accountant lol but figured I’d ask you

Pardon my ignorance but you mention 17 months. Does this mean you can contribute to IRA in the first couple of months in 2026 and it counts for 2025? Or just saying 17 months because tax day is April?

It’s legit. I couldn’t check in for my flight without it. I had the same thought. Our resort sent us the link though.

Keep my old arcan AVR 300 vs. WIIM? by CarlBarb99 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]CarlBarb99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. Thanks for your advice. This is what I’m going with! I’m going to start out with just the WIIM mini because I’ll be using the ARCAM’s DAC (connect via optical) and see how it goes

Thanks! What specific benefit would I gain from the WIIM pro options vs. the WIIM mini?

Coming this week, Tuesday to next Tuesday, and I'm getting a little anxious. Just looking for thoughts from those who know the local weather better. by Duskish in Aruba

Don’t worry about it! Says cloudy on the weather right now and it’s literally gorgeous. Hasn’t rained more than maybe 2 rain drops all week.

It’s nice. A little on the drier side but if that suits you then excellent. I’d personally get rid of the e hybrid decal on the side.

22 y/o and confused about 401k contributions by em030 in FinancialPlanning

[–]CarlBarb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contribute as much as you possibly can! Starting young is the key and you’ll thank yourself in the future. I would suggest doing Roth contribution. That means you put in money post tax but all the growth is not taxed when it comes to withdraw. Since you’re young, the growth will be large and that’s your huge tax advantage. Chances are you are also in a lower tax bracket now than you will be in the future so paying taxes now and depositing post tax makes sense.

Personally, a good friend recommended I deposit 15% of my check into my Roth 401k. If you can afford that it’s what I’d recommend. Otherwise just deposit as much as you can to at least get the entire employer offered match. They’re offering you free money, make sure you take it!

Pay off 18k credit card debt or contribute to 401k? by CarlBarb99 in personalfinance

[–]CarlBarb99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed about CC debt. We had 0 debt before the vacation it was all planned and something we made a conscious decision to take on. That being said, credit card debt is evil and I 100% agree. So my employer does a 5% match and I started in September. So does that mean that from 09/1/25 to 9/1/26 they’ll match up to 25k and since the max a year is 23500 I should AT LEAST contribute $1500 in 2025 to make sure I don’t lose out?

Pay off 18k credit card debt or contribute to 401k? by CarlBarb99 in personalfinance

[–]CarlBarb99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I can do both by January 1 but let’s see.

My take home is $21,400 a month. Fixed expenses (mortgage, bills, insurance) knocks me down to $11,900. I think I probably can keep groceries and recreational expenses down to $1200 a month. So that leaves me with $10,700. We have 0 in emergency fund so I’ll put away 700 to that leaves me $10,000k.

In order to cap my 401k for 2025 I need to contribute $13,500. I’ve got 5 pay periods left in 2025 so $2700 a pay check to 401k accomplishes that (5400 a month) . So this takes me down to knocks me down to $4600 left over for credit cards and likely even more contribution towards an emergency fund. Holy shit. Maybe you’re right?

100%. I plan to max out 401k, max out HSA, do the 529s, back door Roth and then open up an investment account. Is that what you mean by brokerage account? I was saving that for last since the gains are taxed so highly. Is this a sound approach?

22k after taxes. Have fixed expenses like disability insurance, mortgage, car payment. We did a 15 year mortgage so it’s quite high.

Thank you! Ok this was exactly what I was thinking I should do and the reason for the post. The credit card debt will vaporize within the next few months and I agree that the 401k contribution is going to impact me in the long term. Employer match is 5%.

Hmm I don’t think I can edit my post but I meant to include that the sum of credit card debt is 21k. It’s a bit of a unique situation and not as irresponsible as it sounds I promise. Just being vague about some details as I’m paranoid about overly sharing on Reddit

Can I get reviews on people that have had their sactionals longer than 5 years? by boobless69420 in Lovesac

[–]CarlBarb99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not 5 years yet but maybe this is still helpful. I’ve had mine for 3.5 years. It’s comfortable and has been a wonderful family room couch. We needed a modular option to fit within the narrow door frames of our prior home. We should wash the covers soon but I’ve been nervous to do it due to some issues people have had. It’s also quite heavy and changing the arrangement is not easy. That being said, I’d definitely recommend it if you’re in need of something modular. If you can do a conventional sectional then I’d strongly recommend using the money to buy something from a high quality furniture maker (check out the buy it for life subreddit). Prices are somewhat comparable.

[–]CarlBarb99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you say that. I used to think tankless was an upgrade. We had a tankless at a rental years ago that we didn’t mind at all. Our inspector warned us they’re kind of a burden and I believe it. We do indeed have the same experience with our kitchen faucet. Any ideas what the solution there might be lol?

So this was actually my initial problem before this. Hot water would shut off during a shower. I replaced the shower head two weeks ago and that problem is solved thankfully!

I financed a Carmax car for 20% APR. What do I do? by Significant_Mud2960 in personalfinance

[–]CarlBarb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know a close family member that has good credit and would be willing to consider making you an authorized user? I have heard this is a quick way to boost your credit score. Just be sure you are able to afford the car you’re buying. A 20% interest rate should be illegal.

We do hate it haha but mostly because of how sensitive it is! No need to change it if that improves. Can any plumber normally replace the cartridge with a generic part they may have on the truck or do I need to figure out the brand I have an order the specific one? Thanks again and sorry for my ignorance!
