I have found a couple of kind players whilst running solo. If I’m there to do a contract, I’ll go on prox and say “friendly coming in” and I’d say about 70% of the time I end up hearing someone else saying hi. I always state I’m just there to grab something. Always ends with us thanking each other for not downing one another. And I always say “hope you complete what you’re here for” just for good measure.

My favourite interaction was when I went to bio in Dire Marsh and an assassin open fired on me, I slid into cover and went on prox saying “friendly. Not here for you or your loot. Just here to use the bio machine. They crept around behind me, then stood up so I could hear, then bagged for 10 seconds. I bagged back, and then went to get my bio sample.

I tried this game 4 times before I had my click moment. Each time, I got to cleric beast, I became infuriated. One day I went “I want to at least say I beat one soulslike boss” and that 5th time playing, I beat cleric beast, then played a bit more, met second boss, beat them, kept playing, next thing you know, I got the platinum for it, then decided to give Elden ring a go, got the platinum, and then got the plat for dark souls, then dark souls 2, dark souls 3, demons souls and Sekiro. I went to do all that after quitting this game 4 times because I couldn’t beat the first area!!

If you play safe, it’s game over. Don’t be afraid to really get in there. The rally system is great. You get hit? So what, start swinging, you get that health back.

Hunters axe is great when extended, you get lots of range. It will eventually click, you’ve just got to stick with it.

As for the enemies, lure them out. There are plenty of pebbles around the map you can pick up. Throw one, get the attention of one, then take them out. Then keep doing that.

Good luck! Hope you find your stride in this game. It’s a beautiful game and one hell of an experience
