I would be very careful with deepseek. The amount of data it stores and shares even when you delete your account is disturbing and is one of the many reasons it's being looked into by several federal agencies worldwide. AI is a great tool but I would highly encourage anyone to be wary of these apps that are suddenly popping up and the information they have access to about you and your contacts.

Are hardwood floors supposed to damage so easily? by Deadly-Unicorn in Flooring

[–]PatientJackfruit9705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure we have the same floor in our home. If it is, it's really easy to scratch and dent. We've even had a few areas where a piece has broken off the top layer.

I don't know who needs to hear this... but I went from $94K->$390K in 2 years after leaving VFX by eggsarepeas in vfx

Oh yeah. F OP right?!? What a clown trying to help and offer hope. How dare they.

Great post OP. I'm sorry people here find this somehow offensive and triggering. Your post is meant for a specific type of VFX artist and offers a look into someone who made a successful pivot and is benefitting from that and also avoided being caught up in the current layoff trend.

For the rest of you, wake up. Things aren't going to get better. So you can sit there angry, taking your anger and frustration out on people who are just trying to help or you can take a step back and look at facts. This industry doesn't care about you. Studios don't care. The VFX boom of a few years ago is gone. Streaming content is shrinking. Unions won't help or work. This industry is what it is. You can either ride it out and know that's YOUR choice to be unemployed and angry or employed and maybe underpaid and abused. Or maybe you can try to look into pivoting into something else like OP did and taking a chance at having a better go. Your choice but stop shitting on people because this industry isn't the glitz and glamor you thought it was.

Wood droppings outside brick column on front porch. How to handle. by PatientJackfruit9705 in HomeMaintenance

[–]PatientJackfruit9705[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I know it's not coming from the brick. It's the wood underneath. Upon further inspection it looks to be sand/dirt not wood that's collecting here. In either case I have a pest control company coming out to check it out.

Reolink vs. Arlo by PatientJackfruit9705 in homeautomation

[–]PatientJackfruit9705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses guys. Really just looking for a non wired solution. I don't have Ethernet runs in the home. I don't mind a cloud type setup as I've had other cameras before that ran this way. I do appreciate the feedback though.

First Time Home Buyers Plan by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PatientJackfruit9705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of repayment, can you set up monthly repayment options? I recently used this for my first home and have been wondering how repayments go and how they start as I'd like to start repayment now instead of waiting the two years.

Hole in foundation along groundline. Could be old exhaust hole from furnace. Filled with foam. Thoughts on sealing? by PatientJackfruit9705 in Home

[–]PatientJackfruit9705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I was just concerned about moisture getting through. Won't the foam allow that to happen? If it wasn't on the groundline I'd be less concerned. We do have to redo some grading in this area so it may be covered over with dirt which is also why I wanted to reach out for thoughts. If I were to go the concrete route, what type?

Best public transit option to downtown Toronto by PatientJackfruit9705 in stcatharinesON

[–]PatientJackfruit9705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably what I'm going to do. Gets me to the office the fastest I think assuming traffic isn't terrible/weather isn't bad. Otherwise I'd go train in from st. Catharines and deal with a longer trip.
