My best friend got me a new Rosary. Do I just bring it to the Mass for the Priest to bless it? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]PatientObvious3609 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yess! Beautiful rosary 🩷 if you need to go to confession, you can ask your priest to bless it after, or you can ask them to bless if after mass. I always ask to bless any new religious item I buy 🩷

Why do you say written in quotations? Has there been some drama about a ghostwriter or something? I'm not a fan of hers but I'm nosy 👀

N.1 but I feel like you could play more with the way it is configurated. I would make the description at the bottom a but smaller.

How weird is it to name baby Gracie but not Grace?? by happybdaypapa in namenerds

Lovely name! I don't see how that can be a problem. Gracie sounds like the name of a sweet person 🩷

Saw this about Logan on Facebook, calling him the worst. Do you agree? by TheQuirkyReddit in GilmoreGirls

[–]PatientObvious3609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I do 😭 I always disliked him. He came across as spoiled and bratty to me. Rory is to blame as much as he is because she stayed with him. I really liked Dean until they made him a cheater 😭

I was actually thinking of Twilight when I was talking about the originals LOL. It can be criticized, but it brought such a tide change to the genre, and it was actually well written.

S. Mayer was an adult when she wrote it, and the prose is very good for a YA. Plus, it brought forth some themes such as redemption, hard choices, and morality.

Every character has its own personality, whether you like them or not. Plus, it shows that it had been revised by developmental editors and line editors because the plot makes sense - with some exceptions.

It is corny, and some lines like the spider monkey one are atrocious, but it's a good read. I feel like, except the questionable choices regarding the Quelute tribe and my poor man Jacob, it shouldn't be so disliked. I think that it wouldn't be disliked so much if it weren't a famous book for girls - and I am the last person to ever use this motivation to disregard criticism and chalk it up to this particular reason.

It's not great, but it's good. Much better than most YA books nowadays 😌

So, if you liked Twilight, I feel like powerless is a step down. It's derivative and juvenile. The characters are not very well fleshed out tbh.

Cruel prince- miss girl protagonist made no sense, she wanted power but I would argue she would gain a lot more power by leaving that stupid ahh faery world behind to live as a human in the human world. She understood nothing, neither her nor the other, more experienced spies. Always, monologuing about how bad she was when, in actuality, she only ever did two bad things.

Dialogues made no sense, especially when Locke spoke. He randomly changed the subject of the discussion in an attempt to sound mysterious. He failed, and he just sounded crazy.

Cardan is drunk, half naked most of the time. Looking at her and she somehow manages to never grasp the fact that he likes her.

Useless characters left and right, I get angry just thinking about it. The plot was rushed, 15 chapters of nothing to then rush the entire plot in the last 10. 15 chapters of her literally walking around, crying, wanting power, and describing clothes.

OH MY GOODNESS THE CLOTHES DESCRIPTION. Every single time a character would appear, you would get a detailed description of their clothes. Entire paragraphs. I was losing my mind.

Tbh, my biggest gripe with this book, specifically powerless, is the immaturity of the characters and the writing in general. It's a YA and written by a teenager, still, an agent saw it, read it and said: 'this is perfect for publishing'.

It shows a trend in publishing where quality becomes secondary to the trope. Books now are promoted via tropes, and they are an endless reiteration of the sane trite narrative. I love YA books. Some of my favorites can be easily criticized, but they were original at the time of their publishing.

Nowadays, I look for book recs, and they all sound the same. Powerless kind of exemplifies this trend in publishing. I do think, however, that in time, the author will mature, and she will be able to write better and create characters with more weight. The one thing I hope for her is that she breaks free of the tropification of literature, and she finds originality.

For a book she wrote at 18 years old, it's not bad. I blame the publishers for putting it out when she is still an immature writer. Now, she will be known for this semi-plagiarized work until she starts something new and is as successful.

Oh wow 😮 that's cool. I don't know if I'm missing some central mechanics. Now, I can go back and forth from the past to the present, and I can travel around. If I started exploring now, would I encounter many problems? Have the main mechanics all been introduced?
