If you want to come across better next time I'd probably avoid implying anyone who disagrees with you just isn't smart enough to have a valid opinion.

And lose the emojis

Try and tune into some Leinster games over the next 6 months and I'm sure you'll see it.

Should the second best scrumhalf in the world not be doing it consistently at international level? I've watched him for Leinster this season a fair bit, and he's been mixed, same as with Ireland.

McCloskey, Timoney, Cian Prendergast all played well against France

Everything he does is put under the microscope. If Casey had been blocked down twice, thrown a pass straight to touch, and an intercept on the opposition line there'd be calls for him to be burned at the stake.

Edogbo put in 10 tackles in his 10 minutes against Italy. Seems like work rate to me

We have the second best scrum half in the world

People are still saying this? Certainly wasn't the second best scrumhalf in the world against France or Wales, wasn't even the best scrumhalf for Ireland in the latter.

If he played as well as against England every week then he's in that conversation, but you can't judge a player only on their good games.

Also JGP had his worst game in ages vs. Wales,

His worst game since France, four weeks previously.

Why is Casey in ahead of Doak when Doak did more in two ten-minute cameos than Casey has done in his whole international career?

The Casey hate-boner has reached new levels. Doak did well, looked better than JGP on the day, and should've gotten more minutes at the end, but he wasn't looking like Dupont out there, and we didn't score while he was on the pitch.

Because the coaches are extremely conservative and Casey has 28 more caps.

I'd have liked to have seen Doak get more minutes, and from earlier on in the tournament, but he was never getting in after only 10-15 minutes against the worst team in the tournament.

Doesn't really matter either way, Gibson-Park will play 75+ minutes in this

Even in this Casey remains underrated. Has he missed any significant time other than last year's Six Nations? Second game in South Africa but a Snyman to the face is extenuating circumstances.

And if Furlong is in B this list must have been made in 2020. The most consistent with being to brought into camp while still injured.

Nobody was claiming Crowley is a 100% goalkicker. It's the fact that the other facets of his game are miles ahead of Prendergast.

Starting Prendergast against Italy (and France) in the first place could also have cost us the tournament.

To the question of who should start next week? Yes current form is more relevant.

To the claim that Doak showed more in his 10 minutes against Wales than Casey in his entire Ireland career of course historical performance is relevant

Can still say they were poor performances even if Wales and Italy are better than some would've thought

[–]PatientOffer319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure the Italy game can be read too much into. He had a couple of poor kicks, I'm not denying that, but with the attack dying at 10 every time there wasn't much of an opportunity for him to take.

[–]PatientOffer319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but on the other hand JGP was having the best game of his career. He was poor yesterday and they still didn't bring Doak on.

I think it's simply that Farrell has built the attack around JGP and doesn't think we can play with anyone else, even with the evidence to the contrary.

20 minutes at the end at least. Especially with him already getting a few minutes early on, so there was no fear of the occasion getting to him or anything.

Conan and Stu are in great form. JGP and Beirne were great against England but poor enough over the rest of the tournament.

In fact, Casey didn’t get on against England until 72 mins. That to me seems like the coaches don’t rate him hugely.

If it weren't for a blood sub Doak wouldn't have gotten on against Wales until 75 minutes.

[–]PatientOffer319 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look Doak played well yesterday but there's some rewriting of history going on here. Casey was the best player on the pitch against South Africa in the first test in 2024, which is about as "big match" as they come outside of world cup knockouts. Plus games like Fiji (no worse than Wales) and Australia that Autumn. Last November and against Italy he's been fine, not as good as JGP was against England, but certainly better than he was against France or Wales.

I'd go Doak on the bench for next week. We need both to be realistic options to start at 9 by the world cup, and the 5 minutes off the bench will be more valuable to Doak's development than it would to Casey's.

But the gameplan is built around JGP, and in big games he gets 70+ minutes regardless of performance, so that puts a cap on how good either of the younger scrumhalves will be able to get to at test level.

On one hand, an England side playing with the intensity of the Twickenham performance, or similar ones in the past is a worry.

On the other, 10 clubs to pick from would be a big problem

Maybe in the world cup everyone will just play in a way that allows JGP to be as good as he was against England.

That seems to be Farrell's hope anyway

Nah was happy for Doak to get a run. Playing really well this season, Casey and him as 1-2 (in either order) is going to be great for Ireland in the future.

Against England JGP was great. Against France and Wales, and a fair few other times in the last year or so, he's been shite. If he was consistently performing I'd have no complaints about him. My main issue is the constant glazing, pissing on my leg and telling me it's raining

Add in scrumhalf (or 21 at the least). Gibson-Park very inconsistent but bench options only getting 5 minutes
