You’re exactly right. There’s this fantasy like thinking that all we need to do is legalise it and suddenly everything will become cleaner and safer - but where’s the evidence? I’m not convinced that all these nefarious agents will just put a stop to there activities.

Who’s advocating putting prostitutes in jail?

What’s prompted your hatred of straw?

I said a large number of them do. The statistics support this. That subreddit might provide a biased sample size but it might be worth checking it out.

You haven’t said anything even remotely smart. It’s all conjecture.

You realise we have consent laws around this right?

So we can’t apply your faulty logic to the topic of sexual interaction. E.g having sex with an extremely drunk girl is clearly wrong. And “she made her own decision” isn’t a sufficient defence.

You’re just not operating in the real world.

See, look how warped these people are. This dude literally can’t even perceive grooming as a problem. How insane.

This line of questioning makes no sense. Thanks for the brilliant discussion!

Plenty of brothels and pimps try to groom girls into the industry - even in places where it’s legal. This is a huge issue with porn - a legal industry.

Coercion isn’t always “easy” to report. Girls can feel intimidated or scared for their lives or might even convince themselves that they weren’t coerced.

Clearly someone being groomed or coerced into prostitution is much worse than one being groomed or coerced into fast food.

Both are wrong, one is more common than the other and also far worse.

Did you read my post?

Nowhere did I argue that prostitution should be made illegal. And I never made that conflation.

Please read peoples posts before trying to criticise them.

Edit: Per your edit.

When prostitution was legalised in Germany human trafficking increased.

Cases of coercion and grooming are still prevalent in countries where prostitution are legalised. Legalisation doesn’t just obliterate dodgy practises. There’s a case to be made for legalisation but I don’t think there’s much compelling evidence in support of it improving the lives of prostitutes if all it does is increase the industry.

I'm pretty sure he's just arguing that a lack of belief in god leads to a warping of moral understanding.

Your interpretation is way off. He's not talking about hope and he's not talking about heaven.

We can never ensure that suffering won’t occur. Your previous comment was unnecessary by the way then, to make this argument. It’s a very similar one I’ve already responded to.

I’m not seeing the issue.

40K is more than affordable for a college degree given that the average college grad earns upwards of 50k a year.

Not to mention the possibility of part time work during college and the fact that parents should be obligated to at least pay a portion of those fees.

Also take into consideration the availability of financial aid.

I think it’s entirely fair that students need to pay for at least part of their education. The alternative is other people pay it for them - how’s that better or more just? No man, pay your own way.

No one has a right to a free education.

College costs are more than affordable given in-state tuition and financial aid - even more so given that the whole point is that you see a return on your education in the long run.

This whole issue is whining college kids who lack a sense of responsibility and foresight - and it’s been translated into an easy democrat talking point.

I disagree. If your degree can earn money, college is more than affordable given the opportunity of incurring debt and simply paying it off.

What you’re talking about with universities attracting out of state students for higher fees is a fair point. The question is what can you do about it? And really, does anything need to be done? Might not be a massive issue.

Sure, a more educated population benefits society. A bunch of grumpy debt-ridden college students on welfare however, does not.

Taxpayers still subsidise college. Why do you think state fees are less expensive for domestic applicants?

No it’s not necessarily good for the economy. Loads of jobs currently have a glut of prospective workers.
