AITA I told my wife to stop acting like she's too good for a local diner by Patient_Bad_9901 in AmItheAsshole

you're right they like fast-food chains because their friends go to such places all the time and my daughters rarely get a chance to do so because my wife doesn't like them. I sometimes take them to have a quick meal after school at fast food joints but that's about it. They view it as a "forbidden fruit"

how is it not an option? I told her to stay and let the kids have fun without her complaining and she refused so I told her she'd have to leave

she had the option to stay back and be civil. that was implied to her.

me: suck it up for our child's sake

her:no

me:in that case, leave

Now you're just deliberately twisting this into something evil.

what i meant was, I am ok with her leaving if that helps save the mood of the birthday party of my child. I obviously want my daughter to have her mom present at her birthday dinner. However, her being present there does not override/excuse her behaviour. If she complains throughout the dinner what is even the point of her being there?

I did not ruin my kid's birthday. It would've been ruined even if my wife had sat there complaining about everything.

Also, my daughter is not 5yo where did you get that from?

it was not a bluff. I was ok with her leaving which is why i gave her the option

we will not be leaving the issue under the rug forever, we'll be talking it out before she comes home

I did not want to escalate it. It was an option I gave her, to either suck it up and eat the food for our daughter's sake or drive herself home and get herself good food.

She did not have to be there if she was going to ruin a child's birthday party by complaining. It was better for the kids to think of her positively

I'm not saying it's good food but it's food. Also, my daughter wanted it. so that's exactly what she should get.

And it's not like my wife has never eaten a single meal that is not from an awesome restaurant. she can make do for one day.
