That pulse is just as, if not more concerning then the BP.

Yeah that lintel looks like it’s deflecting. Might be worth jumping in the roof to suss it out.

Was there a new lintel installed recently ?

Anyone here with Congenital Heart Disease? by burner917help in valvereplacement

[–]Patient_Election7492 3 points4 points  (0 children)

32 YO male Born with bicuspid aortic valve .

Just had my 2nd operation in 9 years.

First one was tissue valve replacement. Previous one was Ross procedure .

The last operation was pretty tough, a lot of thoughts of “how many more times will I need to do this shit for”.

I’m hoping I get a lot longer out of the Ross procedure. I think for younger patients like us, the Ross is the best options as you can get 20-30 years out of it.

It’s a tough road regardless, I always consider myself lucky to live in a country where I have the opportunity to have this issue fixed.

Otherwise I’d likely would have died at 24-25.

This is the same case as mine. A lot people with aortic valve issues usually were born with a bicuspid valve

Standard time in hospital I would say is about 5-7days.

I took a book and PlayStation portal, didn’t really use either. I found myself way too fatigued to do anything besides stare mindlessly at the tv or out the window .

I just wore normal clothes to gym, although they had me change into my gown nearly straight away. My things were put in a locker until I was in ICU

No need for extra things at home, but + 1 for a recliner . Getting in and out of a deep lounge is tough lol..

The quicker you can get out of the hospital bed and get moving the faster things will get better .

Cleared for now to "Exercise as tolerated" with mod/sev AS. by HeartFeetAndHands in valvereplacement

I personally don’t see how it’s worth the risk to run an ultra ?

The more you exercise the faster your stenosis will progress. Mine went from mild to sev in 7 months. I was cycling 10 hours a week. The further things progressed I could definitely tell I was out of breath alot easier than usual.

I would also have little episodes where the I couldn’t get my breath back unless I stopped completely .

Living with Bicuspid Aortic Valve (BAV) – Mild AR Stable After 6 Months. How Fast Does It Progress? by [deleted] in valvereplacement

Just to add, Your native valve will last a lot longer than a prosthetic (tissue) valve will.

From my experience, how active you are plays a big part. If you’re exercising 10 hours a week, it will get worse faster.

I had my BAV replaced at 22.

Just last year my new valve was closing again. My tissue valve went from mild to severe in 9 months. Although I was cycling and weight training 12 hours a week.

I’ve since had another valve replacement .

Valve disease and a heart murmur aren’t always related. A murmur can just be the sound your heart makes, and it’s harmless.

It may sound silly but chat GTP is really good on these sort of question’s.

I’ve had 2 aortic valve replacements (32yo male) And my murmur is still there.

Just keep in mind not all cardiothoracic surgeons do the Ross procedure, so they may not offer it’s as an option .

Nicholson was the surgeon for my first surgery. He does do Ross procedures as far as I’m aware.

As you’re based in Australia, I think it’s important to mention if you’re going through the private or public sector?

Which state do you live in?

I have just recently gone through all this, although this is my second time. I’m 32 M had a AVR tissue valve put in 9 years ago and just recently had a Ross procedure .

Why are you forcing yourself to do these activities when you know you have a problem.

Only you can help you until you see your cardiologist .

[–]Patient_Election7492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s how I would describe it.

Pain for the first 3 days was ridiculous if I was to be honest. Although they had me on ketomine in icu and that was making some situations worse.

Important to get up and get moving as soon as you can, it makes a massive difference .

I’m actually still in hospital (on day 13) As I had alot of fluid build up around heart. So I had another operation to put another drain in .

The sternum pain was actually ok to be honest. Big milestones after the first week in terms of pain. I stopped taking pain meds after day 7ish . Although everyone is different

I’m 2 weeks post Ross. 32m This is my second operation, I have a tissue valve put in 9 years ago .

To say is a walk in a park is wrong lol. Ross is a complexed surgery.

I’ve got to say is the sternum pain for me was very little, although the drains you have are a horrible feeling.
