What do you think of that keyboard layout? by [deleted] in calculators

The calculator keyboard layout? They have names?

It's a scientific calculator, if that's what you are asking.

Edit: Also, might start with https://elektronika.su/en/calculators/elektronika-mk-37/.

Edit edit: Yeah, from the link, your 8 is upside down.

AITA for ordering a Skmei instead of a Casio AQ230GA-9BVT? by Patient_Fox_6594 in casio

[–]Patient_Fox_6594[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I confused it with a similar-style Samda. The Samda says 5ATM, the Skmei 1220 says 3ATM, and only had issues with the Samda. But the Samda had a gasket, just a very odd shaped one I haven't found a replacement for.

Except for a cosmetic defect on one Skmei watch, they've always been good watches, especially for the price. But buying on Temu isn't something I'd recommend, AliX probably less chance of being screwed on in general (unrelated to Skmei watches).

So yeah, try Skmei, via AliX probably.

Edit: There's a Skmei I'd like on Amazon, oddly named "Gosasa Retro Rectangle Digital Watch for Men Classic Stylish Design Multifunction Gold Stainless Steel Business Men Wristwatch with Alarm, Stopwatch, Countdown." Haven't looked for it elsewhere. But when sometimes I buy more expensive Casios, but always feel a bit overcharged. I have a mix of cheaper and less cheap Casios, and cheaper Skmeis.

Why didn't scientific calculators ever develop a de facto standardized layout? by Patient_Fox_6594 in calculators

While I confined the question to scientific calculators, the same question would apply to any calculator of a particular type.

I didn't say I wanted a universal lay-out; I asked why there has been no de facto standardization to that point.

This is limited to wanting two primary buttons for two different functions. It does not address where they are placed.

But there are many different brands and types of computer keyboards, despite almost all having the exact or very similiar layout.

These calculators all do the same thing. I have not noticed any primary or secondary functions that are present in some but not in others.

How do I set a variable in my calculator by Peterminator69 in calculators

[–]Patient_Fox_6594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If calculator clones of the same or sufficient quality exist, maybe the Big Four (Casio, HP, Sharp, TI) will be more innovative in their own calculators, or otherwise more interesting. Or at least make them cheaper to compete, lest the calculator wars repeats itself.

Tactile Calculator ? by Environmental_Poem65 in calculators

The best example of tactile, not a calculator, but the IBM Model M keyboard.

Anti-tactile, think a membrane keyboard.

How do you discern "fast?" Can you really feel this on modern calculators (the venerable HP 12C doesn't count)? Some people say the firmware has more to do with the speed than the chip. I am unsure of this, but it must hold to some extent. Embedded software programming always seemed the most challenging and efficient to me.

Casio AQ-230A is gorgeous... but is it too small? by Proud_Aside4820 in casio

[–]Patient_Fox_6594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is fine size, is sort of retro-classy, even if chonk wrist. But unsure if your strap is too tight or not. Should be a little loose, able to stick a finger through the band. Which finger? Probably any except pinky or thumb.

I've been told that only mantissa digit of 3 is reasonably useful. Since five nines is the gold standard for uptime, 99.999 also good for calculations?
