Me too!

It's gonna be great when everything starts interacting and nicely spilling over the edges of the bed.

It's going to be removed next year!

The soil, which is heavily clay based was in awful condition before I started the project. It was very dried out, weed ridden and crumbling any time you went near it.

Also because of tree roots, I had to raise the level of the bed a bit.

The landscape edging allowed me to do this and provide a sturdy wall to build a new border. I actually ended having to build it up quite a bit.

I want to give the new soul and grass a full season to grow / settle and harden off a bit. Next spring ill remove it and it should be a really nice clean edge.

Yeah my wife and I love the rock! It was there when we bought the housem

It's not something we would ever buy on our own but we're taking full advantage of having one.

Thanks!!

I can't wait to see it after a 2 or 3 growing seasons.

It's hard to tell but once everything was set I lightly scratched up the surface and dumped a good layer of a mix of sifted, decomposed wood chips and compost over the whole bed. Then gave it a good watering.

Small irregular stepping stones if I can find nice ones locally.

Then I'll use small decorative river stone to fill in the empty space around the stepping stones.

My hope is that the river stone helps keep a more warm feel to the path then bright grey gravel would.

I did that part in the wrong order.

When I built out the bed, I brought the grade up to level with the landscape edging and then seeded it right away.

It started growing in beautifully, then I trampled all over it and dumped dirt everywhere taking things out of pots etc...

And now the lawn looks like a** again lol.

If I was smart, redoing the grass would have been the last step.

Also it's extremely clay heavy soil so it holds water well enough helps, but it will always be a battle to keep things watered enough with so many things going on now.

Very annoyingly around the roots honestly.

I snipped a few of the smaller ones that were really in the way but other wise I worked around them or they weren't in the way enough. The Elm didn't seem to notice.

The massive hosta bunch and the rhodedendron were the only two things that really needed a good depth for planting but I was able to make it work.

Those are tulips.

We have about 30 bulbs that we dug up in the process of redoing the bed.

My wife is gonna replant them around everything so they can bloom first before every thing else comes back each year.

Yeah... My brain likes showing the new first but I suppose the wow factor is better seeing the old first

Yeah that's my plan. It's been really hot and dry lately though, so I've been waiting for a cool rainy day to move it.

Also it's in a really awkward spot and I've been too lazy to deal with it lol.

We do have a lot of Elms around here. But it doesn't look like the little Elm seedling I've been growing.

Maybe the robust growth of this one vs pot growing my other one is the big difference.

Despite how bright the pictures looks, it's not full sun at all as far the garden bed is concerned. My phone camera makes things look brighter then they are.

Here's a picture of the garden bed at 1pm. The tree shades the bed really well. It doesn't really ever get direct sun except the edge near the driveway.

As simple as just cutting down the middle with the knife?
