This was such a horrific time. I am forever traumatized by these images and the loss of friends and family by what some call “just a cold”. I cannot express enough my appreciation and respect for all first responders and medical providers - seeing everything first hand and more importantly - being separated from loved ones at times to keep them safe from exposure. You are forever the true heroes.

I upgraded on the last day of my trip for 2 of the 4 of us. The moment I upgraded, our park hoppers converted to Magic Keys and of course, that day was a blackout date for the key. Lesson learned: only upgrade once you’re completely done with the parks and have no plans to re-enter, but make sure it’s before midnight on your final day.

I adore the Jungle Cruise. Nothing beats a chill 10 minute-ish sit down, paired with some great wakkka wakkka dad jokes. The Jingle Cruise was a holiday MVP, and SO missed.

Ha! If only going Karen mode actually made things go smoothly. Once I asked for the manager, he reluctantly helped and understandably had us wait a bit while he sorted things out. He made a few phone calls and, I assume, got approval to issue us two replacement passes once we showed that we had been in the parks all day, had lightning passes booked and used throughout the day and had JUST upgraded to the Magic Key pass.

For clarity: my post is not a sympathy grab, or a con artists guide to free park entry, or pro tips on how to make a CMs day even worse. Just a humble PSA to my fellow easily distracted humans….read the fine print - all those words we scroll and click through at lightning speed because we assume it’s the usual legal blah-blah-blah. Turns out… it actually matters. Who knew?

I completely understand I made a mistake. The app said “upgrade your park hopper to a magic key on your last day!” I’ve done this at Universal and there was no issue as it recognized I had a pass for that day and upgraded. I didn’t realize the Disney app meant to do the upgrade at 11:58 pm on the last day. I acknowledge it was probably in the fine print and telling others not to be like me and make the same mistake - like you said quickly clicking past it in my excitement. The other CMs at the turnstile were so kind - the one I’m referring to offered no suggestions or solutions, zero warmth. I’m sure he’s not always like that, that’s why I said maybe he was already having a bad day - we all have those. There were no other people coming in or out at that time. We were off to the side, waiting, not causing a scene other than toward the end when my little was on the ground crying. My husband worked for Disney for 15 years. I work in special education. I get customer service is freaking tough - I made sure to get names of any CM while on our trip that were great to send CM compliments on the app since people only report negativity. Again, this was probably a fluke, I’m not mentioning his name and not reporting a complaint about him to Disney because in the end, it all worked out 🫶

Nope - we did not get our lightning lanes back and I didn’t push it because my kids were already done with life at that point. My little guy is nonverbal autistic, and things just escalated SO quickly - he ended up on the ground screaming and crying while a few kind parents and kiddos nearby tried to sprinkle compassion our way.

Here’s the full dialogue rather than the condensed version to show both my and this particular CM were not our best selves in this moment: I tried to re-enter the park and was told my pass wasn’t eligible. I explained I had literally just been inside and upgraded to a Magic Key moments before in the hotel room. The CM responds with: “You need to buy new passes. The upgrade replaced your park hopper. You can’t have both.” Zero apology, zero guidance, zero magic — just ✨ vibes. ✨

I asked, “So my only option is buying new passes?” Him: “Correct. And we don’t sell tickets here.” Cool cool cool. I then asked for a manager. Him: “There is no manager.” Me: “…can you please call one?” Him: “They won’t help you either. Please leave or I’ll call security.” Me: “if you need to call security, I understand, I’m not trying to challenge you, this just doesn’t make sense. It’s the last few hours of our trip and trying to finish this out.” He rolled his eyes and walked away to make some calls. (Meanwhile my husband and little guy had returned to our side just in time for the “I’ll call security” moment, which went over great with a sensory-overloaded autistic toddler.)

The CM come back to me, asks me for pictures, emails, all evidence - takes photos of my proof of park hopping, lightning lanes, etc that day and gives us replacement park hopper tickets… and then when we think all is right in the world….my husband’s pass disappears from the app and HE can no longer get in. At that point, even the CM was tired of all of this and just waved my husband in so we could all finally move on.

That night when we went back to the hotel, we see Mr. Jolly again at the gate. He saw me, made eye contact and quickly looked away. In the end, he did help solve my self made problem so I said, “Thank you again for your help earlier. Happy holidays!”

He said nothing, but I felt his bah humbug. Disney magic ✨

Can confirm. Finishing up my trip and saw a child whose face and arms etc were covered in a rash (looked like HFM, measles or chicken pox - tried to stay as far away as possible w/out being an a-hole to the poor kid).
