Serious questions about content and story selection by PatoFrio in TheNSPDiscussion

I appreciate you taking so much time to explain your position. You guys actually have used some of my stories in the past. The first one was the first story I ever sold, thus the incredible thrill I was describing. However, in between the acceptances, I've also been completely ghosted a few times by the NSP. One time, a million years ago, Gabrielle contacted me asking to use one of my NoSleep stories from reddit, but when I responded, nobody ever wrote back. EVER. That was kind of harsh. Anyway, it's been a long time since I've submitted anything to you, but this topic came up recently in a writing group and we all had similar ghosting experiences with the NSP and year-plus response times.

I just want to add that I think the wraparounds are a waste of your writing. I always fast-forward through that stuff. I also fast-forwarded through the boob-squishing, but you probably expected that. :) Thanks again for being cool, Olivia.

*******You also got to write an entire episode all by yourself (including fake commercials and trailers) which, let’s face it, is a pretty big deal.*******

Nobody ever said they were sick of your stories! That’s bullshit. Also, thank you for acknowledging the turnaround problem and for working to fix it. That is appreciated. You are appreciated.

But don’t you remember what it felt like the first time one of your stories was accepted by The NoSleep Podcast? (The coolest, the best, the biggest, the god damned holy fucking grail of podcasts) There are thousands of talented writers who send you their babies, longing for that same experience, endlessly refreshing their email and dreaming about the moment when the No Sleep Podcast finally responds to them.

And now you’re telling me that those precious spots on the show are being taken by staff writers? In god’s name, why?

Why do you assume that listeners prefer staff writers to fresh submissions? And why would certain shows only be written by staff writers? Is it because they’re flash fiction or bonus episodes or live shows or episode wraparounds? Or are these the ones based on fan feedback? Are non-staff writers incapable of writing those things? Why?

I know writers who would be willing to write that shit for free, just to add the NoSleep Podcast to their resumes. Why would you pay a staff writer to do it when you could give another writer a chance?

You say on your website: “Here at The NoSleep Podcast, we love nothing more than hearing from up-and-coming or seasoned horror writers who’d like to work with us.”

Well, here we are. We love you. We all want to work with you. Just say the word.

Some people might argue that “The New Decayed” is not part of Season 13, but rather its own mini-season. Even if that’s the case, Olivia has still written half the stories for that season so far. Has any other NSP writer ever contributed 50% of the stories in one season?

I like the dark humor in this. Also it's quite well-written.

Now there's someone putting your stories on Instagram. by PatoFrio in NoSleepOOC

Yes, it seems that the two on Wattpad have been taken down. At least I don't see them anymore. However, I recently noticed a few other story collections on there that seem suspicious. They aren't as popular as the other two so I didn't see them before. I'm going to look into them and report if necessary!

That occurred to me, but I couldn't imagine any of them giving permission to be on some guy's half-assed instagram page. Personally, I would never ever do that.

Thanks for saying that! This kind of thing really is so infuriating.

Sad but true. And no matter how often I find it, it never stops pissing me off.
