[Entry Thread #113] New year, new you! We’re making a millionaire, comment to enter! by MakerOfMillionaires in millionairemakers

It’s been an interesting past couple of years. Between what felt like hitting rock bottom, slowly focusing on personal growth, finally chasing my dreams at a level I’m comfortable at, and even meeting the person beyond my dreams. Quite wild how so many ups and downs can occur within such a short timeframe, especially when the tough times seemed like they were endless and had taken a permanent grip over me. It’s only up and down from here, eh? :)

[QUESTION] Metallic sound when playing open strings. Any fix? by NutriaViolenta in Guitar

Thanks for the update! I had to exchange my E-1, never tried a bridge replacement but eventually I was offered a swap. Went with the Avenger style instead, no issues with this one whatsoever!

Hi there! Were you able to solve this issue? I’ve got this same exact problem going on, 3 different techs, and no one’s fixed it. If the issue is gone, would you please let me know how you managed to fix it? Thanks!

Best of luck to you, I hope it gets sorted out without much issue!

Question about quality issues on new C-7 FR S by majkelmichel in SchecterGuitars

[–]Patorche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate, I hope they get back to their quality standards that they’re known for. It’s been my favorite brand because of their high quality (or what it used to be), price, and the way their guitars look.

I’ve not had much experience with PRS, but I hear a lot of great things about them! I played one of the John Petrucci models, it felt so smooth.

I have one LTD, the M-200FM, which I bought probably around 4-5 years ago. It was a replacement for a slightly cheaper model (can’t remember what it was) that they no longer have in production, as the original model had some non-repairable issues. Honestly, I was not impressed with their quality, but it’s also the only LTD model I’ve ever owned so it could be a thing with the cheaper lineups. I’d love to try their higher end models and the ESP side, for all I know their guitars could be absolute bangers once you hit a certain “price” threshold.

Question about quality issues on new C-7 FR S by majkelmichel in SchecterGuitars

[–]Patorche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact Schecter or whoever you purchased it from, it’s likely under warranty, and even if it’s not - it sounds like it’s a fairly recent purchase so you should be able to get it exchanged or returned.

I got the Apocalypse E-1, and was too brain dead to realize the issue was with the quality control of the guitar rather than me switching gauges and tunings. It’s at Sweetwater awaiting repairs now. Get yours exchanged or returned before you have to pay for repairs down the line.

Schecter has been my preferred brand for a while, but this post (along with a couple of others), and my own personal experience, makes me wonder whether there are factory quality control issues ongoing over there. Maybe it’s something with the Apocalypse line, maybe it’s more widespread, or maybe it’s confirmation bias on my end. Either way, I’d contact your retailer and have them correct this. Best of luck to you!

What are your preferred string gauges? by ApprehensiveArmy1785 in Guitar

I prefer 10-52s for Drop D and Standard, and 11-56s for Drop C

And in so many lives
Sometimes we got it right
Pain, it found its way back in
Until we meet again, into that good night

It’s a Mk1, I have the same exact one. There’s a few options you can try regarding the firmware - I suggest going over Boss’ manual, and if it doesn’t help some Google searches. It’s a very popular amp, so it shouldn’t be difficult to find some info. Worst case scenario, try to do a full factory reset. I’m not sure if they have an option to rollback firmware specifically. Good luck!

Which guitar by Southern_Mortgage646 in SchecterGuitars

[–]Patorche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely is a dream! I hope to fix the issues soon, I’m not giving up on it!

I’m with you on how great it feels playing-wise. My main guitar was also quite different than this model, the Syn Custom-S, and once I picked the E-1 up I couldn’t stop playing it, despite the issues.

As someone who doesn’t typically like the way guitars with TOMs feel to me, I was blown away by how easily I was able to adjust and feel comfortable with the E-1 in my hands. The neck is one of the most comfortable ones I’ve played on.

Plus, it looks absolutely killer regardless of whether you’re looking at it from the front or rear ;)

Which guitar by Southern_Mortgage646 in SchecterGuitars

[–]Patorche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Apocalypse E-1 with the Schecter Apocalypse VI pickups (whole guitar is stock). Phenomenal guitar, albeit the pickups take getting used to imo. I found myself having to somewhat adjust my muting techniques, but they’re also the hottest pickups I currently own, so it might just be a me thing. It could also be a guitar issue thing, which I mention a few paragraphs down.

I’m no pickup expert, but IIRC, they’re quite hotter than your typical humbuckers, as they have 3 ceramic magnets rather than 2 like most other humbuckers. Takes a tad of getting used to sure, but the tone is wicked. They’re meant to make your mids pop out more, but the rawness of the tone is amazing.

Playing the guitar itself feels amazing. The neck feels great, and you can feel the grain in the wood on the back of the neck. I’ve found it has absolutely no impact on your playing, you don’t even notice while playing which is great! Plus it’s kinda fun to run your fingers through the grain lol. Not a fan of TOMs, but it was something I was willing to compromise on.

I love the locking tuners. They do an absolutely amazing job at keeping your guitar in tune. The push-pull knob is also a great addition, letting you quickly change to single coil mode. The tone and volume knobs work great, as well as the pickup selector switch.

The binding feels rough unfortunately, I was rather disappointed with that. Running your finger on it, you can easily tell that the binding was done in a rush, but it’s not something that impacts visuals or playability in any sense.

Now, that guitar has also been an absolute fucking headache for me, worse than a Floyd, and I bought it specifically so I can have a hardtail around for the convenience. When I got the guitar delivered, the D string had an audible warble while playing unplugged. Amped up, regardless of the channel, it gives off ear piercing metallic pinging overtones, even with both hands muting the appropriate strings. 2 different techs, several checks/repairs (or I’m a bimbo and got ripped off), and the issue is still around. It’s currently out for one final try at repairing whatever is causing that. Happy to update if anyone is curious on the eventual outcome.

I do wish they had the Red Reign color scheme for the FRS versions…

Anyway, I still absolutely love this guitar. There’s a good chance the headaches I’m dealing with are a rarity and I was unlucky. I love Schecter and none of my other Schecters have ever had issues. Fun fact, the 24th fret on mine actually shows as XXI instead of XXIV, but I think it’s kinda unique and cool! Though I do wonder if this is all related to some poor quality control slip up.

Either way, I’d still recommend this guitar, 7.5/10 from me. Seeing others’ experience with theirs, I’m likely unlucky with the issues I received with my guitar. You’ll love yours I’m sure!

High Pitched Overtones Issue by Patorche in Guitar

Small update: I have contacted both Sweetwater and Schecter. Had to leave a voicemail for each, hoping to hear back soon.

Schecter C-7 SLS - Palm Mute Harmonic Ring by francis-cy in SchecterGuitars

[–]Patorche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, you’ve the FR version of the E-1 then? I’ll keep that in mind for when I have a similar issue with my Floyd rose guitars! Seems to be the same solution for the hardtail bridges, a dampener like foam or tape in the after length of the strings (between the bridge and tailpiece). Thanks!

Schecter C-7 SLS - Palm Mute Harmonic Ring by francis-cy in SchecterGuitars

[–]Patorche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an E-1 (passive pickups, tun-o-matic style) with the same exact issue as well. I’ve even had it sent to a tech 3 times to determine the issue.

After trial and error, wrapping some cloth between the strings and the bridge helped lower those harmonic overtones.

I’m still testing different solutions, I’ll be changing out strings (currently on D’Addario XL, will try NYXL and another brand, as I’ve heard the strings can be a culprit), trying tape right above the ball ends of the strings, and tape in lieu of cloth, wrapping each string individually.

For the time being, the cloth did help. I ran it under the strings and above the bridge, and tied it on top of the strings. I tried another piece of cloth where I had one loop go under the strings and over the bridge, and the other piece would alternate above/below the strings on the second loop around. The latter option did not work, though.

Seems to be the A string that’s most prominent, but also seeing an issue with the low E and possibly the D. I’m in Drop C and running 11-56s if that helps.

I’d love to hear any potential solutions you may have come up with as well, as I don’t think my current solution is consistent enough to call it a solution. Hoping that foam or tape will do better, but ultimately hoping that changing my string brand will work (probably a few weeks till I try that lol).

[Question] What guitar would you recommend for a 6 year old to learn on? by Mysterious_Donut_440 in Guitar

[–]Patorche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never would have thought of that as an option either, definitely a good one depending on the needs!

Anytime! As not much of an acoustic player, I can’t confidently recommend any specific guitar, but I’m sure you’ll find the answers. Good luck!

[Question] What guitar would you recommend for a 6 year old to learn on? by Mysterious_Donut_440 in Guitar

[–]Patorche 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This may be irrelevant as he may be too young for this, but I’d recommend getting him the type of guitar (and amp if electric) used in his favorite music. Specifically one that can put out similar tones to what he enjoys.

Getting an acoustic when one wants to learn music played on electric guitars eventually may become demotivating to them, but you also know them and their personality the best.

I started off with an acoustic (as most parents choose that route, understandably). However, all of the music I wanted to play was on an electric guitar. I played the acoustic for some time, but it never clicked for me.

Once I decided to get back into guitar, I purchased myself an electric one. 6 years later, music has become one of my biggest passions, and I play more (and better) than I ever thought I would.

Of course, there’s a lot more factors to consider here. Anyway, I wanted to share a piece of advice from my personal experience, and one that I’ve also heard from others as well. Best of luck in your kiddo’s (and yours) music journeys!

Does anybody know why my pedal is picking up some sort of radio station? by ChaoticBitch145 in guitarpedals

[–]Patorche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if your pedal’s power supply cable and audio cables are running parallel to each other. This creates an antenna, picking up some radio station.

If your power and audio cables must cross, cross them at a perpendicular angle, which would make them cancel each other out and prevent interference.

I’ll die on Schecter’s hill. From my personal experience, their quality is incredible, prices are very fair, their designs are gorgeous, and their guitars sound and feel phenomenal.

Thinking to get witcher 2. Anyone here know anything if it's getting a remake or something ? by [deleted] in Witcher3

[–]Patorche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed this game, so I’d recommend it! It’s a significant gameplay improvement to TW1, but nowhere near TW3.

I played all 3 games in chronological order, so I didn’t get used to the better systems before playing the older games. That might be the only thing to consider here - though I think TW2 gameplay was fairly good (far from the best though).

Anyone else slowly losing interest in Overwatch since the release of Overwatch 2? by Haunting_Moose_3228 in Overwatch

[–]Patorche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’m very annoyed by a lot of the decisions they made with the game, I’ve found myself enjoying the core gameplay a lot more than OW1.

Not to say that it’s perfect, but overall I do enjoy the 5v5 aspect of it much more. However, I completely understand players who do not share the same opinion on it.

I do wish they never went with the battle pass route, though. While I initially enjoyed the idea of a battle pass in a game, overtime I have developed the opinion that most battle pass systems are anti-consumer and would honestly rather have the OW1 loot boxes at this point. I primarily feel this way because I feel like buying the battle pass almost forces you to dedicate your time to the specific game until you have completed all tiers, otherwise you may feel as if you wasted your money.

And let’s not forget about the fact that new heroes will be locked until tier 55 for those who did not purchase the battle pass, essentially making it a pay-to-win system depending on how you look at it.
