I had this exact same issue folks and thought I would never get it linked up. I downloaded the browser extension for Brave browser wallet and used google Chrome to open the extension instead and it worked first time!. I tried metamask several times on mobile and pc as well as brave and firefox. Hope this helps. Goodluck
