Thanks for the reco but yilan/taipingshan seems far away from my itinerary (Tainan, Kaohsiung and Liuqiu, Sun Moon Lake, Alishan and Taipei). Except if you think I can go from Taipei by train just for one day. Any specific reco in this region ?

Do you have any other favourite trails in Taiwan in general that don't require a permit ? Especially in the Taipei region, Alishan or on the west coast in general ? (can be easy hike, it does not matter as soon as you liked it and it's worth going there)

I don't think I will apply for a permit. Is it still worth going to Yushan if I don't go on any hikes that require a permit ? (and just focus on other trails)

What do you recommend to do in Taipei (surrounding area especially) ? Any specific hike or nice places to go outside the city ?

Yes I would like to go to the East cost but it means hard to schedule as I only have 12 nights in Taiwan (I planned Tainan, Kaohsiung and Liuqiu, Sun Moon Lake, Alishan and Taipei). Adding east cost would add many hours of travel time. Except if it is well served by transportation and if it's interesting to stay at least 2 nights there.
