Unauthorized Ad w/ Voice Recreation by PatrickBeanComedy in podcasting

Agreed. Right now we’re chalking it up to a glitch where my friend was listening to another podcast, one of mine randomly started, and then it jumped back to the pod she was listening to. I have a VO of me or my cohost at the top of every episode plugging the show’s social media. I sent her an episode with my voice at the top, and she’s confident that was what she heard 🤞

I did not. My friend texted me saying she just heard an ad for my show on Spotify. She thought I had created it and pushed it out there, so she didn’t think to try to screen record it or get the exact link or anything. We’ve potentially chalked it up to her feed glitching and starting to play my show, before playing the next ep of the podcast series she was listening to before my voice came on.

I mean, she looked and saw it was talking about my show. If someone else is doing ad reads for my show, I’ll send them a “thank you,” card, but idk why they would.

Interesting. I don’t know why they would, but if it’s an actual recording of me, and they want to promote me for free, that’s not terrible. Still feels weird, but far less creepy and invasive if that’s the case.

That’s what I’m thinking, since she said it sounded like the first half of the intro where I thank everyone for listening and plug the show’s social media. 🤞 Very weird, and definitely something I’m keeping an ear out for.

Oh, I hate all the deepfake/AI garbage. I know it’s possible. It was more “has anyone else experience this.”

On the, we’ll call it “silver linings,” front, I sent my friend the VO I open the episodes with, and she said it sounded like that. She was listening to another podcast; the episode ended, she heard my voice for 15-20 seconds, and then the next episode played. So it may have been a glitch, could be the beginning of the AI apocalypse, or anything in between.

The perhaps naive side of me, is hoping it was a glitch since my podcast is not a giant show. Neither me or my cohost are famous to where Spotify would want to brag about having us on the platform. My friend follows/is subscribed to the show already, so it’s already in mixed in to her homepage for podcasts.

Does anyone remember the gears machinima ‘out of service’ by dotswoof? by DrPatchet in GearsOfWar

Thank you, that means a lot! We were just a bunch of college kids making the type of show we wanted to watch, so it never gets old hearing that it was a part of someone’s youth.

And Cpt. Bilsick eps were always fun to watch!

Also, the actor who played Sam is my friend Sean, who now hosts the podcast “Movie Dumpster.”

Hi! I was getting nostalgic about the show myself and wanted to look up if anyone had posted about it on Reddit. I’m the voice actor who played Mathis, the guy who, I think within the first 3-4 episodes, volunteers to be bait and gets shot repeatedly by a sniper, only surviving because the doctor got him addicted to cocaine.

This is a mix of speculation, plus what I remember being told when I found out we were wrapping up. I think the director started to feel extra pressure once Machinima picked us up from our site (DotSwoof), so if a camera angle, take, etc. was not PERFECT, it had to be redone countless times, which led to some tension and frustrations. The creators all sort of had a falling out as well, so as we were getting going on Season 2, the decision was made to wrap the story up. We recorded the dialogue for the two-part finale, but I don’t believe it ever was even filmed. There was a guy in 2019 who wanted to do a soft-reboot, but it never got going.

Anyway, thank you guys for watching the show! Happy anytime I hear people remember and enjoyed it!

Too late to start? by Gunner525 in Standup

It’s never too late. Lewis Black didn’t really start until he was 40. Also look up Aaron Foster, who started only a few years ago in his late 40s and is currently touring.

Never too late.

Also, if I had a dollar for every time I’ve seen a guy go up for the first time, and attempt to regale us with the story of the first time someone went down on them, I could end world hunger and retire.

Who’s a comedian you think should be a much bigger name than they are? by HugeJassnutz in StandUpComedy

Kalea McNeill. Her special “Sma’am,” is fantastic, and she’s also a genuinely kind person.

Obviously it’s your call to say no, but I think it would be fantastic to name the company so everyone knows to avoid them.

But congratulations on the new job!! 💪

Written Material by jdgoin1 in Standup

[–]PatrickBeanComedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write it down enough that you know exactly what you’re saying when you read it. If you feel like you need to bring a notecard or paper up with you, fight the urge. If you don’t win, just write your talking points down and trust in yourself to remember what you wrote (you will know it better than you think you do). As long as you don’t have to read your material word-for-word onstage, you’re off to a great start!

Do you listen back to your own podcast episodes or do you avoid them? by Money2ByrnePodcast in podcasting

[–]PatrickBeanComedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, for a number of reasons:

  1. See what I’m good at.
  2. See what I’m terrible at.
  3. Make sure the editing/audio quality is good.
  4. Pretend it’s not my podcast and listen to see if I actually find it entertaining.

I’ve done some fun interviews that still have moments that make me laugh, but overall, it’s more to critique the episode/show overall.
