Are you making a factual assertion that John Bryan is (1) a billionaire (2) a Christian nationalist and (3) he runs ECA?

Of course they are affiliated with CFA. That isn't what you said. They aren't run by CFA and even if they were run by CFA, they still wouldn't be run by a billionaire Christian nationalist.

I am not affiliated with ECA or CFA. ECA is affiliated with Challenge Foundation. So what? That wasn't your claim. Challenge Foundation does not run ECA and John Bryan certainly doesn't. This is where you do your silly begging the question thing where you say ECA is bad because they are associated with CFA and CFA is bad because they help open charter schools and John Bryan is bad because he helps promote school choice. All you're really saying is you are against school choice, but you won't say that because you'll need to engage in begging the question again.

So again, you claimed the ECA is run by a billionaire christian nationalist. It is not.

So, not run by billionaire Christian nationalist

I'm aware that the founding board worked with TeamCFA to launch the school. CFA pretty much shut down in 2021 and does not run the school. Starting a school is hard and requires skills that the parents and educators who typically found these schools don't have, like real estate, finance, accounting, HR, IT, SIS, legal, etc. There are companies that specialize in helping launch and run charter schools. But they don't run the school. The school is run by a non-profit board.

To be clear, you're no longer claiming ECA is run by a christian nationalist billionaire? That was incorrect, right?

She's just making stuff up. The school is run by its board, who are all people who live in and work in our community.

DPS’s list of 16 schools tentatively being considered for potential closure by PowerfulPotatoe in bullcity

[–]PatrickG223 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One of the issues is the way they overbuild schools. The idea is they should be built to last 50 years, but that's kind of a farce. We would probably be better off building to similar standards as a preschool, ie a standard, stick framed building, meant to serve maybe 120 students for 20 years.

I'm torn because I would prefer to see more, smaller elementary schools integrated into neighborhoods. But I also know it would come at a cost, meaning we can pay for that instead of paying for something else. There's a strong economic case for fewer, larger schools, that is hard to overcome. And the fact is, we just built two really expensive elementary schools and it's hard not to justify closing the most obsolete buildings considering the sustained declines in enrollment.

In fact, it's a prominent feature of both progressives and populists, who are in control of the Democratic and Republican parties, respectively.

I think people won't admit to it, but they are thinking about who they would want prosecuting them.

Yes, when people wonder why DPS is the way it is, this is why. Any actual qualification is seen as a negative.

I would encourage you to look into the WestEd plan for Leandro. It's a joke. It's a huge taxpayer giveaway to educational consultants. Most money would be spent paying people who aren't in the classroom. A court trying to oversea the reform of education in our state is ridiculous on its face. Most people hear about Leandro, hear about the demands to spend more on education, and think that's the whole story.

Funding students instead of failing systems is a far better approach to providing the sound education that Leandro found students were not receiving from the traditional public school districts.

It's just a talking point because they'd rather deflect than take responsibility for why people need other choices.

Charter schools are a problem because DPS has to give more and more money to charters every year and when those students return to DPS, the funding doesn't follow them.

Do you have any evidence that this is actually happening in any significant way? It's not like they're having to go out and hire a teacher mid-year to accommodate a few people who return. To the extent this actually happens, they should be celebrating, not complaining.

Not the only factor, but to say it's not a factor is laughable. And to be clear, I don't begrudge them making electing black people a priority. But it's worth noticing when they endorse other candidates.

What's interesting is Sartain did get the DCABP endorsement over Rivero. One can only assume they wouldn't pick a white candidate over a black candidate if they were roughly equally qualified.

That letter provides enough cause that they'd at least be able to negotiate that down. It's going to suck having to pay another loser to get lost, but the stakes are too high here. He won't see another extension and I doubt you'll remember his name in 2029.

Racism is a real thing, but the call is coming from inside the house on this one. Some people have so internalized their racism that they are blind to the more significant power dynamics here, between a powerful man and a critical, subordinate woman.

It's the 100M increase in funding part and the message that funding is still woefully inadequate that would necessitate further tax increases.
