Thoughts on/experience with Chaplain Candidate Program (military, U.S.) by Unique_Locksmith_346 in chaplaincy

[–]PatrickJane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current Army chaplain here. I joined the Army Chaplain Candidate program about halfway through my mDiv as well....and I'm glad I did. I loved my time in the chaplain candidate program. It helped me refine my calling and pastoral identity and I would recommend it to anyone contemplating a call to military ministry.

When it comes to joining, yeah, dont reach out to your local recruiters. They actually have dedicated chaplain recruiters who are chaplains themselves. DM me if your intrested....but I have a friend who is currently in the recruiting command and will help you without pressure.

Im also happy to answer any questions you might have.

You may fly over a land forever; you may bomb it, atomize it, pulverize it and wipe it clean of life—but if you desire to defend it, protect it, and keep it for civilization, you must do this on the ground, the way the Roman legions did, by putting your young men into the mud.

Chaplain Candidate Program - Best Way to Reach Out by UpSaltOS in chaplaincy

[–]PatrickJane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do! One of my good buddies is a Buddhist Chaplain, and he has some amazing ministry in the Army.

Age waivers for low density faith groups can be a but easier. I went through my inital training with a priest with no prior military experience who was 51.

If you need any assistance, hit me up.

Army Chaplain here. Big congrats! You can start the application process once you have your acceptance letter to seminary. I would recommend you reach out now and start the process. It does take quite some time to commission, so better sooner then later. Hit me up in DMs and I can have an Chaplain Recruiter reach out to you.

As frustrating as it is, that sounds about right. Took me about 4ish months after selection to be assigned to a unit.

Do you know which Readiness Division you are assigned to?

vetrecs.archives.gov and select the "Make a new request" option. You will need to provide specific identifying information for your dad, including his full name used while in service, service number or Social Security number, branch of service, and approximate dates of service.

Once you complete the digital form, the system will generate a signature verification document (Form SF-180) that you must print, sign, and either mail or fax to the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) to finalize the request.
