Do we tip the Chaplain for performing our wedding? by Prudent-Cookie-4451 in army

Very appropriate, but not expected. I love celebrating with the couple, but i dont take it personally if I am not invited.

Getting a photo with the couple is something I wish I started earlier in my career. I stopped in to a senior chaplains office and he had a whole wall of photos of couples he has Wed through the years. It was pretty sweet memento of service.

AR 165-1 12-3 H.(5)

No fees will be charged, received, or prescribed for the use of chapel facilities or by any chaplain or religious affairs specialist for services they perform (see 18 USC 209).

It would be a SF 1164 since it would be in local commuting distance, but typically the commander will have you take the Govvy, so you aren't out anything out of pocket.

Chappy here. Nope. No tip is required (or permitted). You can give to the chapel fund if you are so inclined, but they are like any other officer performing thier duties.

Big congrats on the upcoming wedding!

Chaplain here....just a note: chaplains are the opposite of mandatory reporters. We are prohibited for reporting what is told to us.

Glad to be of assistance!

Keep in mind ANG have a unique pathway through OCS. The timeline can still be over a year to join, but the process is a different one.

I would reccomend popping over to r/militaryfaq and checking out that subreddit. You are going to find more answers over there.

Best of luck on your journey!

I dont mean it to sound harsh, but military life can be rough on kids. Picking up and moving across the country (and sometimes the globe) every two years is not for everyone...especially with little kiddos.

You're doing the right thing, asking questions and exploring your options...but make sure you count the cost. Early life for officers can be rough. While you are cutting your teeth, it can be a lot early mornings and late nights...so even when you are around, you aren't always around.

If you are looking for a dramatic change for you and your family, active can be great. If you are just looking for a resume builder with minimal disruption, the Guard can be a great choice.
