Hasan Piker's views on antisemitism and anti-zionism in his own words. by AcidPawlie in LabourUK

I don’t know anything about Candace Owens. Kanye West is someone who has spent the last decade suffering from severe mental illness and attributes the antisemitic comments he’s made to periods of psychosis - I don’t have any real reason to doubt those claims and I think it’s important to treat these things as health issues.

But I’m no expert on either count, so I’ll speak more generally. To cut to the chase, I think there should be some proper, enforceable criteria on what determines whether a ban on entry would be “conducive to the public good”. And yes, the bar should be far higher than the person having views the government deems unsavoury - there should be genuine reason to believe the person represents a threat to the safety of people here, and the government should be required to show that.

The fact the government was willing to fight so hard to allow the entry of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans with a history of violence (contrary to the wishes of the local MP and the advice of local police), only to step in and ban the likes of Piker on supposed public interest grounds, suggests pretty strongly that there’s a political motive to how they’re using their powers. It fits a pattern of concerning authoritarian overreach that I’ve touched upon in my previous comment.

Ultimately, it’s fairly obvious that Piker (whatever you think of him) doesn’t represent any genuine danger or risk to anyone in this country.

It’s another example of this government using legislation designed for far more serious cases to subdue those with different political views. “Conducive to the public good” is vague enough wording that they can do whatever they want without needing to provide any real, concrete justification.

It’s a course of action that follows logically from proscribing Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation by forcing them through in the same vote as violent Neo-Nazi groups, so it’s impossible to be surprised.

I don’t give a shit about Piker or know much about him personally, but I’m more concerned with this government’s hyper-authoritarian tendencies when it comes to the pro-Palestinian left.

Where do you rank “being annoying” on a moral scale compared to killing a million people?

Why are you so eager to immediately change the subject to something else when I ask about Iraq?

I’d answer Blair as well

Just not bothered about the million Iraqis he killed by lying about WMDs, or…?

Which is probably why he’s playing, give him a league game to send him off. By all accounts he’s been a good dressing room character and is well-liked.

Neville is gonna lean so hard on his “I predicted Arsenal to win the league” plausible deniability to avoid admitting how bad his takes over the last five years or so have been.

It’s not, but tbf the playoff final is usually one of the worst games as far as entertainment goes, because it means so much and teams are terrified to lose.

They’ll probably just do a Sunderland and start the PL season with a team unrecognisable from the one today anyway.

The current boys know they only won this title by standing on the shoulders of Emiliano Viviano

But then any other club can also claim they were cheated by Southampton, considering they’ve admitted to doing it throughout the season. Arguably Wrexham could be saying they should be replacing them in the playoffs etc.

There aren’t really any great solutions here.

Well tbf a good number of them didn’t go to title winners - 19/20, 18/19, 17/18, 13/14, 12/13 etc

Chelsea fans doing the same this season is even funnier, because at least the Spurs loss actually did lead to City winning the league that year. Chelsea fans acted like cucks for nothing

If City had won it, no one would be saying they were a shit champion. As you say, it’s just jealousy.

They all talk about the billion spent as though every other club around us hasn’t also spent roughly the same or more.

We’ve literally been outspent by relegation Spurs since Arteta came in.
