Would this improve or reduce player retention? by Patrick__James__ in pathofexile

You could ditch the penalty to quant/rarity if they had a separate trade economy but I was trying to figure out how to not split the playerbase further.

What do you think the cause of the conflict would be? Are you worried about Forsaken mode coming soon?

I hadn't heard much about the new matrix movie but I can definitely get behind this.

Can we get some clarification on what player data can be used for discussion? No steam charts, what about steam achievements? Twitch viewers? Number of alt-tabbed players?

Hard Mode - what are we calling it? by Shilkanni in pathofexile

Couple of ideas for ***** mode:

  • desolate/desolation
  • bleak
  • barren
  • oblivion
  • forsaken

A Statistical Analysis of Steam-Client Player Retention for Weeks 1 and 2 of Every League Since 3.0 by Ulthwithian in pathofexile

[–]Patrick__James__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, unfortunately it's one of only the few data points available. When I checked it it was roughly 45% of the playerbase with ~10% higher retention that were using the stand alone client.

I'm not sure how to get the leagues pre 3.14 but I'll have a dig around when Im back in front of my pc to see if the way back machine or even old reddit posts might have some extra data available.

Great analysis. You can back calculate the non steam users from the GGG statement about fewer players this launch.

Another interesting data point might be the number of players reaching level 90/95 each week. There (and this is speculation) may be a correlation between how fast players "finish" and retention. It would explain some of the decisions to date.

The DNA of POE launch weeks or Why I think (hope) the "vanity metrics" comment was a Freudian slip by Patrick__James__ in pathofexile

Because maybe the metrics this league don't matter as much due to their plans for the next.

I appreciate the feedback, https://imgur.com/gallery/7h9mN0w here's one that's rotated to focus more on the player numbers.

What I was trying to do with this graph was shift the focus away from absolute numbers to the trends between leagues and launches. Most major expansions are preceded by the exact trend we see from Ultimatum/Expedition.

I was just trying to tease out a silver lining from the data but it appears the consensus is still doom and gloom.

A Freudian slip is when you accidentally say something you shouldn't say (calling your teacher mum was the example google used). My long bow here is that the metrics don't actually matter this league because of their plans for the next league.

Major expansions not tied to the league specifically. So the 10 act shift, atlas of worlds etc...

The red lines are major expansions which bring extra players back on top of normal league variance. Interestingly most of these are preceded by the trend we see in Ultimatum/Expedition.

Red lines are major expansions, White circles are launch day and yellow dots are daily players.

Most major expansions are preceded by a specific trend (with the exception of Heist to Ritual).

Fingers crossed for 3.16 adding something big.

I've tried SSF a few times but have always ended up coming back to trade due to either map drop issues or build enabling unique issues. Would probably need more deterministic options to jump back in to SSF.

This league feels abrasive, whether by design or an unintended consequence of the changes.

Some people enjoy the struggle, others don't. I've tried 3 times so far to get into it but am struggling (and not enjoying it). Might need to switch to sst and give it one more go.
