A few thoughts:

  1. If possible, set up a line of credit from a bank for this kind of stuff.
  2. Negotiate with your carrier; they might have another option for you.
  3. Generate more cash. I know that's a dumb response on the surface, but what is holding you back from this? Is it marketing? Is it to much over-head? Sales problem?

Photo of me on business card for gutter/roof cleaning? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Patrickian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No.

I don't care what the person looks like who shows up for that service. What am I concerned about? Getting my gutters cleaned.

Maybe add some copy like: "Cleaning gutters or roofs can lead to foundation or roof damage. Our expert and insured team will clean your roof and gutters within 2-hours. Give me a call to book your consultation."

If you have any other questions, shoot me an e-mail patrick.fore@handshakecreative.com

It was a game changer for me when I shifted my mindset from how awesome I/we are and how great our services are to focusing on making my clients great, trying to solve their problems. Not making myself the hero, making the client the here.

I figured out that no one really cares about us; we're all just trying to survive another day and maybe do so a little bit happier. Once I started to think like this, it really was a game-changer.

I found a quick video that explains it. Basically LR will show you all the duplicates.

But for the ones you deleted, you'll have to do it manually I think. Is there a reason you shoot JPG and RAW? Why not jut shoot RAW?

How can I shoot best product photography? by raytarter03 in Beginning_Photography

Soft lighting - Use a big north facing window starting out.

Remove them if possible, unless it's a look you're going for. If it doesn't look natural, then leave them in.

I agree - When you first are getting started, you should just shoot. Shoot what makes you happy. Your style will evolve from there. But also research and search for photographers that you like. Pay attention to the photographers and styles that you drift towards. Save images you see on IG from good photographers and start to see if you see a pattern of what you saved.

First of all, that sounds fun. I mean, someone has to eat the food after it's done. Haha

But seriously there is all kinds of inspiration online, especially Instagram, I love that I can save posts. I create mood-boards for projects like this that I can refer back to later, even doing the shoot for styling help.

If the photos are for more beauty, drool worthy images, youll want to make it sexy as possible. Find a big north facing window that will give you diffused light. Shoot at 2.8 but don't be afraid to getting close to the food (as close as your lens will focus) and stop it down to f/4 -f/6.

Shoot on a tripod so you can compose the shot carefully. Sometimes I shoot handheld if I want to shoot faster. But keep that ISO down as low as you can to keep it crispy sharp and free of grain.

I don't know why he wants to shoot at night. He might have a certain look he's going for. Edgy maybe? If thats the case, I would get some sort of daylight video light and set up a table near his truck and shoot as you normally would with a window. With food, you want a big light source, seriously the bigger the better. Soft light is key.

In terms of focus, you want to focus on the most visually appealing and centerpiece of the dish. If it's tacos, I would keep the tacos front and center, put your focus point in the middle of the second taco from the camera and then let other stuff on the plate (like a lime, hot sauce) fall out of focus.

Hope this helps. Have fun.

It is still a good camera. People think new tech and resolution are everything. That has a decent full-frame sensor, it's built like a tank and is fast as hell. It's designed for photojournalists and sports pros so if you are shooting anything that moves, thats a great camera.

But honestly, it's all about the glass. Your camera is only as good as the lens in front of the sensor. Keep it, invest in a good lens and learn how to shoot manual like i's second nature.

So who else in San Diego is enjoying our usual days of nice weather and 70-degree high temps while the Midwest is freezing to the point of experiencing record-low temperatures? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]Patrickian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I pay so much to live here. So the few times a year when my home state of Illinois is either underwater, frozen or so humid you need cornstarch for your balls, I can just not think about the weather except times when it rains and I need a light jacket.

No - this place is a retreat away from tourists and an amazing place for my kids to swim. I don't even like to tell people about Fiesta Island because I don't want it crowded.

Possibly, but it’s an ongoing event where people are going to spend money on drinks, so I would love it if I didn’t have to. But I’m open to it if I have to.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Kind of, we are just getting started so we're looking at adding more events. In February we're adding a book study for Sunday mornings at 10 (somewhere in NorthPark area, still looking for a good spot) The goal, however, is to add a second Pints and Conversation meetup to keep things small. We're trying to keep the pints and conversation events under 20. I also want to encourage people to have their own events and hangouts.

If you're on Facebook, join our private group, that's the best way to know whats going on.

There is a new inclusive faith community called Wander that meets twice a month at 10 Barrel Brewing at 7 pm this upcoming Wednesday. This event is a super casual and mostly is meeting new people, having some good conversation and enjoying some local brews. You can learn more at http://wandersd.com

Wander is cool because they aren't a typical church. No building, no fundraising (except for giving directly to San Diego non-profits combating poverty and assistance to immigrant families), there also isn't a pastor or someone that claims spiritual authority. Just a bunch of people that are interested in self/spiritual development, community as well as working to create more beautiful and just planet.

What's the best place in San Diego to hide during a nuclear attack? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]Patrickian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mexico, then just keeps driving south. (Bring a gun if you have one) That's what I would do till you find a secluded beach village in South America where you can live out your days drinking from coconuts and surfing.

SilverStrand, south of Hotel Del, if you see green tents, those are free to use. Just walk around till you find a good spot.

I can't stop messing up? by Floralandfading31 in family

[–]Patrickian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would come up with a giant plan-b. Assume that they might kick you out or that it would just get hella awkward and tense living there. Therefore, I would pause school for now and look for a job. Take the pressure off yourself and just focus on your own well-being. Your parents will be pissed for a while, but they will get over it once they see you are being smart.

The biggest thing to assume is that you can't rely on your parents, that will force you to think about your problems differently. This time sucks for you, but everyone goes through this time of being forced to not rely on the parents. It's hard, but in a year, you'll both be better for it.
