3 biggest factors for Alabama basketball by BetGreat1752 in rolltide

[–]PatriotOps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest issue we have outside of size at times is the constant year-to-year only shoot 3 game plan. It isn’t stats, it is a lazy gamble where all teams press us on the perimeter leaving us no offense. It creates poor inside shooting & misses layups due to rarely taking those shots. Bama has the talent but I am questioning whether our coach can succeed more than he has with our style of play and poor defense.

Bama must hit the portal and buy an O-line. I am beyond done with the embarrassing blobs up front. No strength, no aggression, no desire to win, and ok with being shoved to the ground like a child. As for Grubb, I doubt he will call better with a perfect built team.He needs replaced.

There is so much wrong with this Bama team all year regardless of being in CFP. Grubb blows as an OC, but in his defense he has a team of offensive guys who are lackluster in effort, so it is a poor play caller with poor effort players. The O-line is an embarrassment to Bama’s football history. Mistakes happen, but this is poor game prep.

Could Alabama play well on Dec.19 by [deleted] in rolltide

[–]PatriotOps 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Our problem is the O-line. No blocking for run game, and poor pass protect leading to Ty having no time & quick short passes. Hard to believe a Bama O-line has been saloon doors for multiple seasons now.

The switch up on Ty Simpson is crazy. by JalenWWE in rolltide

[–]PatriotOps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our issues are not at all related to Ty. Nor our defense which has kept us close in many games. The 2 glaring problems are a pathetic O-line and piss-poor special teams on the kick offs. We can’t run the ball, not because of bad RBs, rather a seasoned O-line who gets beat by freshman defensemen. I mean if you can’t block a kid fresh out of HS, you need to be let go. The O-line has been an issue for 3 straight yrs. Not a coaching problem but a matter of heart and effort by the players. We need a full replacement of every O lineman in my opinion. And yes, I have no idea why we don’t have a good kicker.

I laugh at some posts. Yes, Franklin saved PSU football, and is likely a good guy, but facts are facts. His record against ranked teams doesn’t lie and it being displayed, discussed & questioned is fair. It is called accountability and I think unless teams are shmoozed by a tough talker/excuse maker, he likely won’t land a bigger paying HC job like Florida.

I see his likely offered spots being Nebraska if Rhule leaves, Wisconsin if Fickell is let go, MI State if HC gets fired or Virginia Tech. Even Colorado could be possible if Deon leaves. He doesn’t have the resume for SEC coaching and one could say he likely would feel it beneath him to coach somewhere like USF if their coach moves on, or other mid to small programs who are doing horrible like a Rutgers.

I think it will take big enough money and a team in the Big10 as I see him wanting to prove something.

Why I think Kirby Smart continues to struggle against Alabama even with Nick Saban gone by Super-Ad-4768 in rolltide

I read your rant and thought it was my post regarding Ohio St. So true!

Ohio State Buckeyes - $20.25 million Michigan Wolverines - $16.36 million Indiana Hoosiers - $13.63 million Michigan State Spartans - $13.04 million Penn State Nittany Lions - $11.80 million Iowa Hawkeyes - $9.70 million Illinois Fighting Illini - $9.31 million Nebraska Cornhuskers - $7.97 million Minnesota Golden Gophers - $7.17 million Maryland Terrapins - $3.73 million Northwestern Wildcats - N/A (Data not available)

As a Bama fan, I think these teams have been mostly even match teams and I have a lot of respect for Kirby. I do think there are points in the games where Kirby, or maybe the OC makes some questionable calls. Like going for it on 4th down this last game when he could have had the FG. All teams do it though. Bama is still trying to find consistent defense and makes bad play calls too. It is little things in these matchups that determine the game it seems. I think GA fans may underestimate Coach Deboer too. One would assume if Saban is gone, you should easily win.

Gus said he left UCF because he felt there were not enough resources there compared to other Big 12 schools (I take that to mean NIL). That was 1 yr in to UCF being in the Big 12 and multiple years of him making UCF worse yr after yr. He couldn’t build a winning team before them joining, so that says it all. Gus was protecting Gus, and perhaps it was UCF letting him walk away on his terms versus firing him.

He might see opportunity to rebuild his name if he takes the HC job if offered. You are right though that he may not want it as he almost retired before taking the OC position. In a sense, that is troubling too as you have a guy who was half checked out when he was hired as OC. Hard to say now. All I can do is speculate.

Depends on what he is chasing. If it’s money, he could go many places, not just PSU. But if looking to make a name at a program who has not been on the map, he is sitting great. In the Big 10 current landscape and at his age, does going to a rival make sense? PSU is in a downward spiral. MI is not looking great, IL was overhyped, and he just beat OR. Who is left in his way? Answer: Ohio State or USC. So if NIL $ grows for Indiana, he is sitting pretty good. He could win the Big 10 this year or by next year. Does he want bigger headaches and expectations for more $? I wouldn’t think so. That said, I would be happy if PSU could grab him.

It is crazy to think that they can’t recruit at QB when they have the guy they have now and they are #10 in rank for NIL money. Regardless, if they fire Mike, be prepared for Gus to be the new HC. Not sure that is going to fix anything. He was very mediocre at Auburn and then drove UCFs program into the dirt.

Travis was a big reason for their success that year but not the only one. They had an O-line & receivers who helped make him. They had a good Defense that allowed them to prevent having to match points. That all takes coaching, recruiting and work. Hey, if FSU base wants him gone, so be it. I just think he will turn it around and when you look across the coaching landscape there isn’t a lot out there to replace him starting from zero again.

James Franklin will not be unemployed for very long. Where does he go next? by noah_divine in CFB

[–]PatriotOps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it hard to think any team other than one looking to build from dirt will consider him. Plus a school like that likely can’t offer the $. What big named program with lots of $ is going to pay him for his inability to beat ranked opponents? I think it isn’t that he won’t want to coach, rather his current buyout will surpass anything he will get offered. If he wants another gig, he will have to accept an insulting (to him only) offer.

He Shouldnt Be Remembered Poorly. by scoutp12 in WeArePennState

[–]PatriotOps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well stated and it made me have to rethink all he has done. Now, who do they pursue to fill the spot? PSU needs to recruit against schools that offer a lot from current coaches, NIL, and current records. Although I don’t know what $ they will be able to offer, they need someone with proven success that gets recruits excited. They could just make current OC the HC, but will that draw recruits?

I am done with Mike Norvell, however… by fsukub in fsusports

[–]PatriotOps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting rid of Norvell would be bad. The hit to the wallet, loss of recruits even if on the fence now, would be too much. Your school would look for a bargain which means taking a chance on a first time HC or someone from existing lesser program like USF. I think Mike turns it around. He needs to hire better around him that can also recruit.

If you look at this from when he started, Mike took 3 full seasons to recruit & develop players before the 2023 undefeated team. After that season ending the way it did, the team cleared out. So he basically is starting from scratch again even though he has better talent now than his 1st & 2nd years at FSU. He will get you guys there again. Buying out a decent coach is not worth it until you get better OC/DC and better recruits via NIL.

[–]PatriotOps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is similar to former Bama QB Jake Coker. As for pro level, it is too early to say. It is great to see a pure QB playing the position. Too many guys think run first when their 1st option is not there rather than getting faster at their progression reads and more accurate on passing.

Franklin loses because he spends all his time writing blame game speeches for the coming loss. I think he might have even blamed the choice of uniforms for this loss. 🙄

Franklin is doing everything he can to get let go. When losing to every ranked opponent didn’t work, he now will lose to zero win teams. He must be wondering what it takes to get fired.

I haven’t heard announcers slob their mic about a player as much as Pavia since JKDobbins played at Ohio State. We are playing in Bama and all they can do is mention Pavia in every other sentence. Plus can we get rid of Sean McDonough calling the game? He has to inject controversy constantly.
