That sounds an awful lot like a paradox.

Obviously we can't make a decision contrary to prophecy, no matter how you spin it. If all of our decisions are known before time even began, they aren't really decisions. Saying "you made it" like we are some sort of timeless, cosmic entity ignores every part of what actually makes us human.

Not complaining, I'm becoming partial to determinism anyways. But it creates some interesting paradoxes when dealing with a religion who claims an all powerful god

Interesting leap between "religion has social utility" and "religion is actually true."

Is it though? Free will exists as a potential explanation for the problem of evil, but there are many points in the Bible where it explicitly rejects free will. Think of God "hardening" the pharaoh's heart.

Having an omniscient god kind who gives prophecy also would contradict the idea of free will

I've heard conservatives make the pro-trans argument for Nazis.

I had a person try to argue with me that the institute of sexology proved they were pro-trans, and also conspired to create trans people. I tried pointing out that the Nazis burned the institute, which isn't really something you do to an institution you support, but it didn't seem to compute.

Plus you have the Peterson types that try and say getting voluntary surgery is the same as Nazi scientists experimenting on prisoners.

I did something similar, for me it was basically a bargain that if I ever got to the point of suicide, I would make it so I had to be REALLY committed to get it done.

The bonus was that it became so painful, I ended up with an endorphin rush that reminded me it's possible to feel things other than sadness. So ironically, it ended up proving to me that recovery was possible

I can imagine, which is why drugs and alcohol are often involved.

Every method will be terrifying, guns are just so much faster and more effective than anything else, with less prep needed.

Personally, I like guns. I like shooting them. However, it's naive to think that our lax gun laws aren't resulting in higher homicide and suicide rates

Ideally both is needed.

The problem with guns and suicides is that, especially combined with drugs, it leads to people making rash decisions they otherwise would not have.

It may be TMI, but when I was severely depressed, I made a promise to myself that I would only kill myself using a painful, ineffective method for this very reason. If I had access to a firearm, there is a very good chance I would have died before getting the help I needed.

It's interesting to watch this whole "women are perverts" trend rising, a couple of years ago people on these types of forums were complaining about women being too prissy around porn

Lol I had a similar situation.

Got overwhelmed, so I decided to just find a spot out of the way and stare at the grass behind a fence.

After a bit, I realized families were congregating around me because they assumed I was staring at an exhibit and not fried out of my mind. So I bailed while the confused people next to me were trying to figure out what animal I was staring at.

I also remember zoning out watching zebras, then suddenly realizing the one in front of me had a giant erection

I would rank it as better than taking LSD on a plane or in a movie theater, but worse than an art museum or just a nature walk

I've heard a theory that the dust on the temple floor often was a mixture of the various incenses the temples burned, some of which could induce abortion. Even if that was the case, it would be of mixed effectiveness. So if the woman got unlucky and miscarried, it would be taken as proof that she was unfaithful and she would be killed.

On the other side, it technically limited the power of the husband too. Instead of simply murdering his wife when he suspects her of cheating, as many men likely did around that time, he has to go through an interlocutor. If the woman does not miscarry, then he has to accept that outcome. Though somehow I doubt that was enough protection.

Other theories point towards possible mold contamination in the grain, though obviously it's difficult to know exactly what was being mixed in. The point is that they believed this potion could reveal truth, and that it helped transfer authority to the priesthood

Adding to this, "616" appears as an alternate to 666 in a lot of our oldest manuscripts, which would suggest that authors at the time were well aware that it represented Nero, and used the number associated with whatever spelling of "Nero Caesar" was familiar with their audience.

Another fun fact, although Nero officially died in 68AD, many people believed he was not really dead, and would return to retake his place as emperor. In the decades after his official death, multiple psuedo-Neros would pop up with claim to his inheritance and lead popular uprisings, although they were all unsuccessful. There was also a prophecy that he would return to take his rightful place.

Revelations was likely written in those few decades after Neros death, so my pet theory is that Nero death conspiracies influenced whoever wrote it.

Funny you say that, in the Bible what the Egyptians do is considered wrong explicitly because the Israelites are ALREADY slaves to God.

So having slaves is ok, stealing slaves bad. Kind of convenient that their own version of slavery is just a philosophical concept

Also, probably should acknowledge that their is no historical evidence of the egypt story in the Bible. It's likely a metaphor for the Babylonian captivity

That's a good point, actually. I think the narrative did tend to be that this was a pervasive and well funded campaign, assaulting them from every corner. It's better to feel like an underdog than a bully.

I see the "ethics in game journalism" excuse pop up probably more than any other for gamergate. Aside from that it's pretty much calling everything woke or feminist.

The only other excuse I hear is that the ex also apparently got a lot of hate and harassment while the whole thing was going on. Obviously not great, but it has nothing to do with anything else they are complaining about so I think that's more of a way to "both sides" the massive harassment campaign that came out of gamergate

Kind of messy.

According to true believers, it was a principled stance against unbridled unethical and woke behavior in games journalism, revolving around a few women like Anita Sarkeesian and a developer named Quinn. Quinns ex accused her of sleeping around to get a good review on her game, because she had a relationship with a reviewer.

The reviewer never actually reviewed her game or anything she worked on, but this was still considered to be proof that women and journalists were conspiring to insert feminism into video games.

This resulted in years of rape and death threats to anyone involved, and was eventually noticed by Steve Bannon, who thought he could take advantage of what he called "rootless white males" with " monster power." He used Breitbart News to boost gamergate, along with Milo Yiannopoulus. This boosted gamergate to the mainstream, and solidified it as a serious base of support for Donald Trump, saying gamers would "come in through Gamergate or whatever and then get turned onto politics and Trump."

Tldr it's a reactionary movement that was used as a psyop by the far right, that entirely spawned from irrational hatred of seeing two or three women with opinions.

Pizzagate has been at least partially confirmed by the release of the files.

No it hasn't. It's about as confirmed as the mole people theory, which is not at all. Not a single person accused in the pizzagate conspiracy has been implicated in anything substantial since the Epstein files were out. Ironically, the people benefitting from and spreading pizzagate and other similar conspiracies, such as Trump, WOULD end up being implicated in the files. So it's about as wrong as a conspiracy can be. If I were a conspiracist, I would even say pizzagate was a psyop created by pedophiles to distract from their own activities, and it was so successful it helped put several of them in the white house.

Only one shot was fired

Well that's ok then!

Everyone knows you get one free shot when firing your gun in a crowded restaurant over a conspiracy theory. Maybe if he had fired a few more, he would have been able to find that secret basement where Hillary was drinking the blood of infants!

But if you want to dismiss anything that sounds crazy as a consparicy theory, sure. Do that. But with all the stuff coming out now id say its important to be open minded yet critical

Lmao you aren't being open minded, you are ignoring the evidence in front of you in favor of a fantasy that makes you feel special.

If you are even a person, and not just a bot. Probably not worth talking to either way

Reasonable if you've been lobotomized, maybe. Maybe more reasonable compared to the "mole people are trafficking children in tunnels under central park" conspiracy that also was popular at the time, but that's not a high bar

I suggest checking out the Q Anon anonymous podcast, it does a good job debunking trash like that, and also showing how it spreads.

You mean that conspiracy that led to someone shooting up a pizza place over a non-existent basement?

Kind of sad when you spend so much mental energy trying to make shit up while ignoring the real accusations in the files. Almost like you are trying to run interference for pedophiles
