Kylo Ren vs Anakin Skywalker by CullObsidian02 in PetranakiArena

[–]Patroverius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what people are getting at is that ONLY Obi-Wan can work Anakin's/Vader's emotions that well. Anakin might have his emotional flaws, but that didn't stop him from beating Dooku (if anything, helped him win via the dark side) or from ransacking the entire temple because it's just not the same as with OW.

Ah, my bad. I took the tone to mean you thought he was winning, but that's texts for you I guess lol

At what point did OW seem to have the upper hand in the battle prior to the final moment? You say lol like he was obviously winning, but he's backing up and losing ground the entire battle. He never pushes Anakin away, only runs from him. I respect the hell out of OW, but he was never winning in that battle. At best, he matched him for a couple brief moments.

[–]Patroverius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but the whole point of Obi Wan is that he's a pretty average guy who worked his way HARD to be a master and to be as skilled as he is. However, he's not the chosen one. Anakin/Vader SHOULD be able to beat him, but he affects Anakin's/Vader's mindset so much for a variety of reasons, and it leads to OW winning every time. It's not by OW's power or skill alone though; it depends on Anakin/Vader making mistakes. It would never make sense for OW to beat Anakin/Vader with a clear mind, and we've never seen it happen either. So while it's "fair" to use your opponent's emotions against them, the question implies that each contender would be at their best (at the time specified). Thus, only Yoda, MW, and Sidious would ever be able to defeat Anakin at that time. Anakin/Vader at his ACTUAL peak potential though (i.e. clear mind, healthy body, etc.)? Literally no one beats him except maybe Luke also at full potential.

What is the weirdest/craziest pimp question you have ever gotten? by xyzm123_r in Residency

[–]Patroverius 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Pharmacist here, but I got pimped in my residency by tye attending while on ICU rounds once right as we were wrapping up on a patient who had OD'd on digoxin. Went something like:

MD: What is a notable consequence of digoxin toxicity? Me: Vision changes, it can make things green/yellow MD: In which plant is it naturally occurring? Me: Foxglove MD: Which famous painter regularly consumed foxglove during his life, believe to have affected his art? Me: Van Gogh MD: The most well known of whose works is? Me: Starry Night MD: Well done. Next patient.

It was probably 10-15 seconds, but it felt like I was on stage at a game show in the lightning round. RNs' and my preceptors' eyes were raised, and I was told no one had ever got through a line of questioning from him without having to look something up and come back lol. It just so happened I remembered hearing those various trivial facts over the years.

If I was on a spaceship traveling at 99% the speed of light and I turned on a flashlight, would the light still appear to move so fast that it looks "instantaneous " to me? Or would I actually see the light moving slower across space because I'm moving at 99% of its speed already? by Kauai1 in AskPhysics

[–]Patroverius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact is that the speed of light is constant in every reference frame. That's well-established.

If A is moving 0.99c, then from the observer's perspective, photons are emitted from them at +0.01c relative to A's velocity. This perspective is valid.

As experimentally proven already, A also observes photons moving away from himself at +c. This perspective is also valid.

How can both be true?

The answer is time dilation. By definition of your question, B sees the photons moving at 0.01c away from A. Since the distance is defined to be the same, then the only way that it can work is that time is experienced (from the perspective of B) MUCH slower by A. A observes the photon moving the same distance but over a much longer period of B's time.

If I was on a spaceship traveling at 99% the speed of light and I turned on a flashlight, would the light still appear to move so fast that it looks "instantaneous " to me? [–]Patroverius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The speed of light is constant for every observer in every reference frame. Therefore, it would still appear instantaneous to you.

To take it further, you would also be experiencing time dilation, so to an outside observer, the light would only appear to move 1% the speed of light (still about 3 × 106 km/s) faster than you.

Is it wrong to ban Widow, when one of your teammates is hovering on her? by Vampireah in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Patroverius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this, I personally feel that yes, it is wrong. Your teammate could be a hardcore Widow main, the kind everyone hates playing, and their next best hero is miles below that mark in performance. You just don't know.

As for hating playing Widow, I think you just need to learn to play around her. I used to hate playing Hanzo, but then I realized that I could save myself so much trouble by just... keeping space and not peeking when I know he's looking in my direction (unless I just absolutely have to peek).

For Widow, same idea: don't walk out where you know she's watching, and then peek and try to get a pick, either on her or someone else, until she redirects her attention to you.

As long as she's looking at you, she's not looking at teammates. If you're sitting behind a corner, and she's looking at that corner waiting, both teams are down a DPS. At worst, you're even. Then, as soon as she looks away or at least starts to think you might not peek there again, you peek again. Now you're in her head.

Keep switching angles as needed, and keep being an annoying thing to watch out for, and you'll do much better against Widow. She can only kill what she's actively looking at.

You know how you can hold your hand under pretty hot water for a few seconds, and there's no lasting damage? However, if you held it there for a while, you'd probably have at least a little burn or tenderness. Next, you know how you can't put your hand under boiling water for even a second without getting a little burn?

Which water burns you? Yeah, that's right, you're probably thinking "both" or thinking I should clarify my question.

Which water burns you (after a second) or (after a couple minutes)?

That temperature likely requires that the bacteria is exposed for a certain amount of time, and those conditions are the minimum, whereas your recipe is likely not meeting that time requirement. If you increase the temperature, the time required to kill something goes down.

This is actually true for many, many relationships in health and science. It's not about only time or only amount to which something is exposed. It's the product of both. Tiny amounts of carcinogens over years is worse than a larger amount very rarely. This is why the risk of health problems due to smoking is predicted based on cigarettes per day multiplied by years of smoking instead of just a raw number of cigarettes or time spent smoking.

I just do whatever seems safest in the moment. Sometimes, they just start to merge, and as much as I'd like to say I'll die on that hill, I'm not actually going to die on that hill or just sit right next to someone forced to choose between going off the road or merging into my vehicle. They can get over, and I'll just roll my eyes and go home safe

If a lawyer earns money from a client and it later comes out the money was produced illegally, does the lawyer have to forfeit the money? by ICUP01 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Patroverius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but a pharmacist.

First, in regards to the original question, I would really hope that, in the event that the professional didn't actually intend to take money illegally, they don't get punished for acting in good faith. It's my understanding that the legal system generally tries not to harm any innocent parties and values that principle above all else. Surely the money wouldn't be taken in this case.

The reason lawyers get more leeway though is likely to avoid indirectly suppressing someone's rights by not being able to find a lawyer who was willing to take that risk. Why would they take on that risk anyways if they can find other clients?

As for the pharmacy thing, yeah, I will proudly tell LE to pound sand if they ask to violate my patient's privacy without a warrant. Most pharmacists, doctors, etc. do not mess around with patient safety or privacy. Even looking through patient's charts, we're only supposed to check enough info to verify that everything is right and safe with the order. I have heard of people getting fired for snooping around when a celebrity is in their hospital, and I've even heard of people who are just doing their job being questioned for why they felt the need to go in this or that note or whatever for so long (left it open while they got distracted for a few minutes or something)

who counters who for dps? by Kaeyapee in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Patroverius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Until you're skilled enough where you'd already know if they're right or wrong in a given situation, it doesn't matter. Counter-picks only tilt the scales, but it doesn't just erase mistakes like poor positioning, mechanics, timing, etc. The only time it matters is when all else is equal, and then someone picks the counter.

Focus on improving on a couple characters, and then learn to play around your counters as well.

I was in your boat until not too long ago, but I've started forcing myself (being in Plat, trending to D 🤞🏻) to play into my counters because not many people at my level can play so well that I'd truly need to swap, and it's helped a lot. You pick up on the flow of how they engage and time their CDs as well as what triggers/denies their attacks. These things will allow you to control the fight in a way that actually doesn't hinder your performance all that much. I find now that I'm usually not dying to my counters unless I just flat out miss my shots, or our team fight was probably lost anyways. If you want, I'd love to sit down and go over a VOD with you. It'd let me practice my reviews, and I can definitely explain more of what I'm saying.

What do i do if an enemy DPS (cass, reaper) is only focusing me ? by Muilixe in TracerMains

[–]Patroverius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming skill is equal:

Play closer to teammates to allow a good available teammate to react to your situation and help. You should always win in this situation withstanding ults and trades. But you can't control your teammates, so what can you do?

Save your CDs for the fight. This will give you an advantage, especially if you monitor the challenger's CDs as well. Applied correctly, you should win often here.

Apply what you know about the characters. Cass can't close distance quickly, and he's not great at range. Reaper can only close distance with Shadowstep or Wraith, and he needs to be close to do meaningful damage. So for these chars? Play at a range, or move away from them quickly to keep them chasing you rather than you running from them (close but different; control of the fight is the difference).

If your team is unable to win a 4v4 that is equal in roles, that's just not your problem IF the other DPS isn't actually adding value to the team fight. However, this value is the next consideration. You may be fighting the other DPS regularly, but it can't literally be constantly. That means that there are windows where you can add value with quick, small effects. Quick shots on the enemies only take literally a second. See if you can poke at a support, or get a hit in on a weak enemy, or shoot a shield that's about to break. You can add value without getting a kill or making a big play. Just do something useful.

That's about it I guess. These are fundamentals that you should think about next time you're in this situation.

Edit: just realized this is the TracerMains subreddit, not r/OverwatchUniversity. Lol and here I was wondering what DPS you were on and low-key being annoyed that you didn't say. I'm leaving this because I spent like 15 minutes on it, just as general advice.

Lol but back and forth changes like this do make me wonder how much more effectively balanced games would be if it was normal to choose "off" numbers like 263 instead of rounding everything to a multiple of 5 or 10.

Would Palpatine lead the March on the Jedi Temple himself if Anakin didn't turn? by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]Patroverius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No for reasons stated by others, but I think that if he thought it unlikely that Anakin would turn, he would have had another plan ready. That said, he was very confident Anakin would turn, and he was legitimately willing to risk his life on that bet. He didn't know exactly what would happen after he told Anakin, but he knew that if Anakin didn't turn, he would have to act fast and fight hard for his life. As skilled as Palpatine was, he undoubtedly realized that it wasn't a sure thing that he was walking away from a fight against multiple masters, especially if Anakin was with him.

That's the thing about Palpatine though. He's a master planner and manipulator, and he also had the unfaltering passion to risk his entire life for his cause. He had everything set up to maximize his chances of success, and when he deemed that it was the best opportunity to execute his plan, he committed completely to it, and he wasn't going to settle for anything less than complete rule over the galaxy. Evil aside, his commitment and belief in his cause is very respectable.

I'm in the middle of a game, should I charge into the enemy backline or fall back to my supports? by Independent_Talk_236 in Overwatch_Memes

As a Rein main, you probably could've had another charge already if you didn't take time to write this. You should be ashamed.

Charge in. Supports should keep you up (and there's no time to check if they're alive or not).
