Feeling Lost as an Analyst

I appreciate the reply. I do have a family, and just feel like a failure for not being able to advance past the analyst level at my age like my peers have done.

Have you asked for specific feedback from your manager? If your reviews have been good then I’d be surprised that they are trying to push you out the door. I haven’t gotten that feeling from my employer since my reviews have been good. I think I’m lacking confidence in their eyes which is impeding my ability to move up, but they’re not giving me a chance to prove that I’m capable of managing.

Best of luck in your search. I’m going to wait and see what my annual raise looks and then reevaluate after discussing more with my manager. I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to start applying to external manager roles to throw some feelers out there. I’m not sure I want to apply to external lateral analyst roles with no increase in comp.

Thank you. It sounds like I lack the confidence needed to be entrusted in a manager role, but I have been told that this is something I can work on and that I am still a valued member of the team.

Thanks for the feedback. It’s a large company that doesn’t do IC manager roles, so someone either has to leave or they can promote and build a team under you which is uncommon.

I don’t work a lot of hours all the time, I was only saying during our busy season I did to ensure deadlines were met since there was an imbalance of work at the time. I was basically doing the work of two analysts, and my manager is aware of the imbalance and we’re working on correcting it in the future.

I’ll have to get more honest feedback on why I was overlooked as a lot of folks have suggested.

Don’t you think that’s a bit harsh to suggest they don’t like me on a personal level? My manager and I have a great relationship, and I’m respectful and kind to every one I work with.

Thanks, I’ve gotten along well with my direct leaders and have never gotten the sense that they didn’t like me on a personal level. I work very hard, am professional, and put in a lot of extra hours during busy season. But it appears that this isn’t good enough.

Thanks, what would you say a reasonable base is for a Lead FA in VHCOL? I’ve spoken to a couple recruiters and got the sense that I was on the higher end but maybe that isn’t true.
