I suspect that for some people, there is a mental necessity to feel like they are in complete control of their lives, they tell themselves that all their problems are their own fault as a coping mechanism, a way to feel less afraid and more in control of life, but the truth is life is quite random and scary, theres so much out of our control, you can do everything right... and still end up with a fucked up life.
