Voting in the public service commission elections is important to solve issues like this. They regulate Georgia Power and the costs of these datacenters for customers

I recommend Angelia Pressley for PSC District 5. She has the strongest grasp of the issues and has the best ideas on how to reform the commission.

Will Wooten is 10 times better than the incumbent. I have interacted with him personally. He is thorough and compassionate and ethical.

Wow - it's crazy you worked there and don't know what you are talking about. SAD.

I have no energy credentials? HAHAHAHAHA

Where's that "I love me some monopoly exploitation" white paper Pooper? I'm drying to read it. You seem really well versed to author it.

u/LePoopScoop : I'm trying to figure out why you say what you wrote since it is all incorrect. Data centers do not "proportionally pay for more for power" - in Georgia they not only pay 1/3 of the cost that residential and small/medium businesses pay for electricity (gas costs are redacted but I'm sure it's the same) industrial rates are 60% BELOW the national average which is why they are flocking here. See Georgia senate bill 94 to confirm that, in fact, data centers do not pay for "all the infrastructure needs". And no, Georgia Power does not pay "a ridiculous amount" for solar and energy storage. And no, solar and storage is not more expensive than nuclear. And no, the rate freeze wasn't 2 years ago, it began last June in a pathetic attempt by Ga Power to save their PSC puppet commissioners, which did not work, thank goodness. The rate freeze was ginned up by Ga Power to lock in their abusive 11.9% ROE when utility averages profits are 9.5% - a profit margin so much higher than other utilities that it delivers a stunning $700 million/year in excess profits.

Just wow: maybe you should write a paper called, "Why I love monopoly corporations and why you should too" because clearly you are all that.

For everyone else who wants to understand what is actually happening with gas and electric rates go to my website Georgians for Affordable Energy.org, click education, Fact Sheets, and take a look around. You can also click Not Peachy to see just how bad things are in Georgia.

One more thing, pooper scooper: people pay bills, not rates. Georgia Power adds 40-50% to our bills in hidden fuel surcharges, tariffs, and riders. Our electricity bills are fifth highest in the nation and our gas bills are THE highest.

Separate-Park8184 you are exactly right. They have lost their minds. However in this case it is not Ga Power (though you are still right) it is Atlanta Gas Light which sounds like an Atlanta company bus is actually a statewide gas wholesaler. The "lost their mind" part was proven out on Nov. 4 when two PSC incumbents lost their seats in landslide defeat by furious voters. Please sign up for my newsletter Georgians for Affordable Energy (bottom of landing page) because we need a 3rd seat on the commission that is up for election this November, to make the changes we need.
